Four years ago, few students attended the men’s and women’s soccer games. The seats were packed with families, youth soccer teams and visiting fans. But then a change happened and students started to show up to “Pack the Hill”.
Since then, men’s soccer has sent every team to the NCAA Tournament, won the ACC Tournament and reached the College Cup in 2015. The women’s team have improved every season, most recently producing their first .500 record since 2012.
Both of these teams deserve the increased attention from both students and faculty of Syracuse University and beyond. And The Orange Card will offer a fresh perspective on Syracuse soccer.
The Orange Card is a podcast that focuses on both the men’s and women’s soccer teams. It will cover previous games watched by analysts, breaking down tactics introduced by Coach McIntyre and Coach Wheddon, and preview games as the ACC season gets underway.
That’s not all. The podcast will tackle national and international soccer news with analysts giving input on what is going on. This includes a 10-point rundown on significant results and a segment called “Stoppage Time” where an analyst will discuss an important topic surrounding soccer.
If you have watched soccer all your life or don’t really know anything about it, I encourage you to follow along this journey with us. We’re open to ideas and suggestions, and hope that we can speak about not only our ideas but yours as well.
Here’s a brief introduction to the team:
Peter Benson is the lead producer of The Orange Card. From Dunfermline, Scotland, he grew up watching soccer with his father since he was four and five. His favorite team is Manchester United, however will watch any soccer game he can.
With The Orange Card, Peter is in charge of planning out every podcast, running production meetings and directing the show.
Jose Cuevas Jr. is the senior producer of The Orange Card. From Compton, he spent time watching soccer both nationally and internationally. While he also has experience playing, his expertise relies heavily on Liga MX.
With The Orange Card, Jose makes sure the podcast is running smoothly and is in charge of making the podcast time-efficient.
Tyler Dudley is a host on The Orange Card. From El Paso, Texas, Tyler grew up playing and watching soccer. This interest grew when she was at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, and it’s continued into her time at Syracuse. While she doesn’t have a favorite team, her love for the game can be seen whenever a game is on television.
With The Orange Card , Tyler will challenge the analysts to focus on the past week’s events, what to look forward to and more about the world of soccer.
Jared Bomba is an analyst on The Orange Card . A native of central Pennsylvania, he grew up in Lebanon County. He completed his undergraduate studies at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., graduating in 2015 with a major in history and a minor in Hispanic cultures. He was also a member of the men’s soccer team during his four years at F&M. During his four years, the Diplomats reached two Sweet 16s and the program’s first Elite Eight as well as completing the only undefeated regular season in program history in 2014.
With The Orange Card, Jared brings experience in his playing and coaching ability which will see him focus on all components of our team.
Erin Fish is an analyst on The Orange Card. From South Glens Falls, N.Y., she then attended Long Island University in Brooklyn and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Media Arts and a minor in English. She was a member of the women’s soccer team at Long Island University in Brooklyn from 2012-2015. While injuries limited her playing time, she was part of a Division One program in the Northeast Conference.
With The Orange Card, Erin’s ability to watch soccer and speak about it is a true asset, and will heavily focus on Syracuse’s tactical performances.
Will Muoio is an analyst on The Orange Card. From London, U.K., he is a senior at Syracuse University where he studies Newspaper and Online Journalism and Political Science. This team will grow as the season goes on. We hope to rely heavily on outside perspectives. If you feel like you want to be part of this new team, please reach out to us and we will do what we can to get you involved.
