A simple walk to class proved exciting for Syracuse University students Thursday as they passed Secret Service agents and marveled at sharp shooters on top of the Schine Student Center and the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel. The frenzy was generated by the visit of SU School of Law alumnus and Vice President Joe Biden.
Biden visited to speak in recognition of the It's on Us Week of Action. Biden urged students at Goldstein Auditorium to help bring an end to sexual violence against women. While the Goldstein Auditorium event was sold out, there was plenty of action outside the building.
Some students waited as long as two hours outside the Schine Center to catch a glimpse of Biden exiting in the motorcade. Others marched in support of the Black Lives Matter movement in solidarity with student activists at the University of Missouri.
Following Biden's speech, Chancellor Kent Syverud walk past students who were awaiting the exit of the motorcade while holding an SU basketball signed by Biden.
Many took to social-media platforms to express their excitement about the visit, reactions to his speech and post selfies with the VP himself.
