More than 200 people gathered to see the chemistry between fashion and art at LSK Modeling and Events Company [17]’s Essence of Art fashion show Saturday night at The Vault.
La Shaun Jones and LaKisa Renee, executives at LSK, have been working on this show for two months. “We decided to merge art and fashion to see how to coincide each other,” Jones said.
The show featured three local designers: Corii Esha, Micheal Jones and Cheryl Geiger. Each presented 15 pieces they designed for the show. Their pieces were of all different styles. Esha, a young designer with potential, showed sexiness and elegance though an all-white see-through dress. Jones, 49, has been in the fashion industry for 25 years. He revealed street style and vintage fashion through printed dresses and sportswear. “It is kind of like what I see in the street and magazines,” he said. The most dramatic looks were in Geiger’s collection. “I want a fun, artist show,” she said. “So the bright color of the hat and the makeup (give outfits an) artistic feel.”
Unlike many fashion shows where models walk down a straight runway from one end to the other, models in this show would stop in four fixed areas. The designers also sat by the stage and watched the whole show, while they are usually behind the scenes. They were seeing “their babies come out,” Jones said.
The artists were not merely featuring their finished work. They were painting their work in front of audiences. 100 pre-purchased tickets were sold before the show, and another 100 people bought tickets at the gate.
The air was full of music presented by R&B singer Dashè Roberts. Some people could’t help but move their bodies to the rhythm and sing along with the lyrics.
“I felt very excited tonight is a full house,” Jones said. “Everybody is gorgeous.”
