Democratic candidate for president Bernie Sanders is coming off a win in Wisconsin, and his New York supporters want to keep the momentum going.
Sanders supporters marched through Downtown Syracuse today in hopes of encouraging voters to vote for Sanders in the upcoming New York Primary on April 19, 2016.
To gain more attention, people beat drums to make sure they were heard and waved signs with messages such as “We are the 99%” and “Feel the Bern.”
Supporters at the march discussed issues that Sanders has pushed for throughout his campaign, ranging from gay rights to the amount of maternity leave a mother should have. They hope he will bring it to fruition if elected.
Sanders is set to make his first stop in Syracuse this Tuesday, as he will host a rally open to the public at the Oncenter's Nicholas J. Pirro Convention Center [12] at 2 p.m. The Vermont senator will also be making Upstate New York appearances in Binghamton and Buffalo. Sanders still trails former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, but his New York supporters are looking for an upset.
