Spring break is known as the time of year when many college students take extravagant vacations to tropical locations like Miami or Mexico. But not everyone has the cash flow in order to spend hundreds of dollars to support such a dream. Fortunately, there are still some interesting things to do around Syracuse — and if you’re tired of Syracuse, a great vacation is just a couple hours away. Here are some ideas on how to spend your spring break.

Dance the Night Away
Get your groove on. La Familia de la Salsa will be hosting Latin dance parties at Johnston's Ballybay Pub and Nightclub on Saturday, March 15 from 9:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Not sure about your dance skills? See a Play
A Midsummer Night's Dream will be playing at Syracuse Stage until March 31 at Archbold Theatre. The Shakespeare play was directed by Bill Fennelly and co-produced with SU Drama.
Visit a Couple Art Shows
Channel your inner Van Gogh by visiting some art exhibits in town. Make a stop at the Erie Canal Museum for the Collected Memories: Quilts, Quilters and Quilting [15]. The free exhibit is open all week and will “transport visitors back in time with a narrative told through the medium of quilts."
Go Ice Skating in Clinton Square — Everyday
If you haven’t taken advantage of ice skating in Clinton Square, why not try now? Better yet, how about you go ice skating every day of break? It's a terrific workout. The average person burns 493 calories per hour skating at average speed. So skating for an hour a day on spring break could mean burning a whopping 2,500 calories, which would definitely help you get in shape once bathing suit season rolls around.
Turning Stone Casino
Fulfilling your gambling fix only requires a 30-minute drive. Make your next visit even more jam-packed with entertainment and see Enter the Haggis perform on Saturday, March 16 at 8:00 p.m. The Canadian indie/folk rock world-fusion band based in Toronto, Canada is currently on tour throughout the East Coast.
Tour Boston
Google Maps says Boston is only 310 miles away from Syracuse. This means you’re only about 5 hours away from hopping in the car and cruising your way to the capital of Massachusetts. You can spend the day visiting places like the New England Aquarium [16] and top the night off by grabbing a drink at Green Dragon Tavern [17], one of the oldest bars in Boston.
Check Out New York City
We’ve all heard the song: "Concrete jungle, where dreams are made of." NYC is full of possibilities. You can go to the Museum of Modern Art [18], take your love interest on a romantic walk through Central Park or take the relationship to new heights at the Empire State Building. It may be chilly outside, but NYC has tons of restaurants where you can get cozy. One popular go-to spot is Cafeteria [19]. Open 24/7, Cafeteria is located on 7th Ave in Midtown.
Visit Montreal
Tired of Destiny USA? Then try getting all the cool new clothes underground — literally. Montreal is home to an underground set of shopping complexes called RÉSO, or La Ville Souterraine in French. If shopping is not on your mind, visit the Olympic Village. The park was built for the 1976 Olympics and houses the largest inclined tower in the world.
Take a Trip to Toronto
Got your passport? Toronto offers a wide array of activities to do. Not only can you soar 1,815.4 ft high and get the best view of the entire city in the CN Tower, you can have an interesting day by just getting lost in Downtown Toronto. Some foodie hotspots include the Eaton Centre mall, or you can find a nice all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant on Yonge Street downtown.
