The Track and Tennis Center at Boston University proved too much for the Syracuse Orange [4], who were defeated by the BU Terriers [5] 6-1 on Sunday. This loss puts Syracuse’s record at 7-2 on the season and stops their winning streak at six. The terriers have been unbeaten at home this season (5-0) and are currently riding a five game win streak.
Freshman Maddie Kobelt [6] was the lone singles winner, defeating Monika Mical [7] 7-6(6), 6-4. She and junior Emily Harman [8] teamed up at first doubles to win 8-5, though Harman struggled in her singles match.
All of the women of the Orange fought hard, many splitting the two sets and requiring a decisive tiebreaker. Senior Christina Tan [9] managed to win her second set 6-4 after losing the first 3-6, necessitating a third and final set, which she was unable to seal. But the players refused to go down without a fight, winning at least one game in each of their singles and doubles matches.
Syracuse hopes to rebound next Friday at home against Villanova [10] at 6:00 p.m. The Wildcats have struggled so far this year and the Orange hope to win yet another Big East matchup.
