Syracuse dropped its final game of the regular season 4-1 to Wake Forest despite Emil Ekblom [9] scoring his team leading 10th goal of the season.
Wake Forest claimed the lead halfway through the first half when Ian Harkes capitalized on the scoring opportunity to put the Demon Deacons up 1-0. Sean Okoli followed up a short time later to put his team up 2-0, a deficit that proved to be difficult for the Orange to recover from.
Down 3-0 in the second half, Syracuse finally scored when freshman Emil Ekblom sneaked a shot past goalkeeper Andrew Harris that cut the deficit to 3-1.
But Wake Forest did not allow the Orange to build any momentum from that goal. They managed to execute on one more scoring opportunity on this night, getting a fourth goal past goalkeeper Alex Bono [10] and securing a victory.
The loss eliminates the Orange from contention into the ACC Tournament. Syracuse finished 3-7-1 in its first year in the new conference.
