Syracuse University students will choose the next Student Association [13] president and comptroller this week. Four candidates—Allie Curtis, PJ Alampi, Kyle Coleman and Iggy Nava—are running for president.
Before you cast your vote, here’s some information on the presidential candidates:
Allie Curtis
Curtis, the current SA vice president and a public relations and political science junior, promises “real results” from her campaign. She stresses SA’s involvement in the SU community, and emphasizes the importance of having full representation within the organization. At the SA debate Sunday night in the Joyce A. Hergenhan auditorium, Curtis said she also wants to break down barriers that keep students from obtaining internships they really want. “I’ve seen the way SA needs to be,” Curtis said.
PJ Alampi
Film junior Alampi serves as SA’s Student Life Committee [14] chair. His focus is largely on student organizations and connecting students with SA. At the SA debate, Alampi emphasized his experience working with students and organizations. "I understand students because, well, I am one," Alampi said. He said he understands what it means to be a leader. "I think it's more important that we're interacting with students, and hearing their issues,” Alampi said.
Kyle Coleman
Coleman, an accounting, finance, economics and information management and technology junior, knows what it means to balance a full schedule. He’s held positions in the University Senate and on the Finance Board. At the SA debate, Coleman said his goal is to find the balance between creating results while being approachable within SA. Although Coleman said he believes he is the underdog in this election, "I'm running for this because I believe in the ideas I'm standing up for."
Iggy Nava
Nava, an international relations sophomore and assembly representative, stresses campus unity in his campaign for SA president. At the SA debate, he said he hopes to bring students together and create more uniformity on campus. Nava also hopes to strengthen students’ involvement in the Syracuse community, and build upon the idea of Scholarship in Action. “The role of the president isn't about being there in the office, it's about being in the community," Nava said.
Voting starts tonight at midnight tonight and continues until Thursday Nov. 15. Students can vote by logging into their MySlice [15] accounts.
