In a letter [11] addressed to the Syracuse University community, Chancellor Nancy Cantor announced that she will "step away from oversight of the day-to-day operation of the University" in her final months as chancellor.
These plans are effective as of Monday, Oct. 14.
At tomorrow's regularly-scheduled Executive Committee meeting, Chairman Dick Thompson will recommend that Vice Chancellor and Provost Eric Spina be appointed Interim Chancellor, also effective next Monday.
"...he will be able to assume oversight of all day-to-day University operations until Chancellor-designate Kent Syverud [12] begins his tenure on January 13, 2014," wrote Cantor.
Over the next few months, Cantor wrote that she will remain in Syracuse, and remain actively engaged with the university. She plans to "finish several key initiatives and fulfill a number of SU-related national speaking obligations during the next few months."
Cantor first announced her plans to step down as chancellor last October, originally planning to stay with the university until June 2014. She was appointed as chancellor of Rutgers University's Newark campus in June.
Writes Cantor: "Although I will see many of you around campus before departing for Newark, I want to again offer my profound thanks for all that we've been able to achieve together and for what I know are great things yet to come for SU and for all who believe in the transformative power of higher education to make a difference in the lives of our students, our communities, and the world."
