After dominating just about every facet of Top 40 radio for months on end, The Chainsmokers bring their biggest news yet. The American dance music duo announced Monday that they will release their debut studio album and embark on the Memories: Do Not Open tour throughout the United States and Eastern Canada.
Members Alex Pall and Syracuse University graduate Drew Taggart [12] left the decision on whether to release an album up to their fans. They said they were overwhelmed with the result, and made the album available. The tour will kick off April 13 in Miami, Fla., and wrap up June 10 in New York City.
The announcement did not include a concrete release date, however Columbia Records indicated a digital download of the album would be included with each online ticket purchase [13].
Tickets go on sale to the general public Feb. 3, with early access provided to AT&T customers beginning Jan. 31, and Citi card members on Feb. 2.
The closest the tour will come to Syracuse will be April 21, when they play the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. The Chainsmokers recently headlined SU’s own Block Party 2016 event in the Carrier Dome [14] alongside Chance The Rapper.
The Chainsmokers are currently up for three GRAMMY awards [15] this year, including Best New Artist, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (“Closer” feat. Halsey) and Best Dance Recording (“Don’t Let Me Down” feat. Daya).
These announcements closely follow the release of another wildly popular single titled “Paris,” which went immediately to the No. 1 spot on iTunes. The song also is the duo’s fourth to reach the Billboard Top 100 chart.
Previous releases like “Closer” with Halsey and “Don’t Let Me Down” with Daya each spent over 25 weeks in the Billboard Top 100, and peaked at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively. Each song also has platinum certifications in multiple countries.
