Happy Hump Day. Take a look at what's been happening on campus, around the city and across the country over the past week:
FROM THE HILL
- Syracuse University has its very own scientific glass blower. Who knew? And she’s only one of a handful across the entire coast. Watch how she makes beakers and test tubes. [3]
- A few students found true love just in time for the weekend, as Chinese students staged an SU version of Chinese dating game show [4], “Fei Cheng Wu Rao.”
- The NewsHouse’s third annual Tweet and Seek competition [5] is still going strong. Make sure you play to win some cool prizes.
STILL IN 'CUSE
- Dodgeball is not just for elementary school kids anymore. A group of Syracuse union members plan on staging a dodgeball game [6] on April 17 to protest low corporate taxes.
- After a warmer than usual winter and a tease a few weeks back of an 80-degree spring, it looks like the weather will stay cold for a bit longer. The National Weather Service is predicting low temperatures and rain [7] until the weekend.
- After passing the $4 mark last week, it looks like gas price increases might finally be slowing down [8].
IN THE ZEITGEIST
- Looks the like the meandering Republican presidential primary might finally be over. Rick Santorum formally suspended his campaign Tuesday [9], leaving Mitt Romney as the likely nominee. Time for the general election season to begin.
- Also on Tuesday, Facebook acquired Instagram for $1 billion [10]. Hipsters everywhere decried their favorite app going mainstream.
- Where are “16 and Pregnant” and “Teen Mom” going to get their casts now? A new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows teen pregnancy is rapidly declining [11].
