For the price of $10, I saw 21 Savage. Yet, short and simple is how to describe 21 Savage’s performance in Goldstein Auditorium for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity’s State of Emergency concert. 21 Savage performed music from his recent collection, and although his music has earned him a huge fan base, his performance falls short. The rising artist seemed like he was there to play a few songs and get off the stage as he barely interacted with his audience, failing to produce the hype the fraternity’s previous concerts brought.
Maybe 21 Savage’s minimal collection is to blame for this disappointing performance. His performance of his track “X,” which originally features rapper Future and producer Metro Boomin was a huge highlight of the concert. This particular performance sans Future and Metro Boomin had the whole crowd captivated as they sang along.
The concert also featured Nebu Kiniza, who performed his hits in a way that I can only describe in his words as “lit”. Staple campus DJs Maestro and Special K helped keep the atmosphere exciting. No concert can top J. Cole’s performance at the Carrier Dome in 2014, but this was an entertaining atmosphere that allowed the audience to seemingly forget their worries. Proceeds from the Sigma week will be donated to their philanthropic causes.
