Maybe it was rust, but the Golden Knights simply outplayed the Orange.

Senior goaltender Jenn Gilligan was a brick wall in net, stopping 34 of 37 shots tonight in the season opener against No. 5 Clarkson, but that wasn't enough as Syracuse dropped to 0-1-0 following a 3-1 defeat.

"I thought we did a good job", said Gilligan after being asked about how the team played in front of her. "[Clarkson] is a good team and they came at us really hard, so for us to limit secondhand opportunities the way we did, I thought my team did a great job."

This was Syracuse's second win of the season.

Syracuse killed off all eight of Penn State's penalties and converted on one of its six power play chances to earn a 3-0 victory over the Lions Friday.

Stephanie Grossi scored twice in the first seven minutes and fourteen seconds of the contest for the Syracuse Orange (2-7-1, 1-0-0 CHA) as the team faced off against the Nittany Lions (2-7-4, 0-2-3 CHA) in a special teams battle. There was a combined fourteen penalties called in the game, and Syracuse needed to stay sharp if it wanted to secure its first conference and second overall win of the season.

Isabel Menard is making quite the impression while playing for the Syracuse Women's Ice Hockey team, but with that she's also making noise on the international stage as well.

During the last drill of a vigorous 90-minute practice, a streak of golden light zips down the ice, blows past a defender and flicks the puck past the goalie and into the back of the net.

The golden skater, Isabel Menard, repeats the process three times, leaving three different defenders frustrated in her wake.

During the second run, the puck barely trickled over the goal line before the goalie swiped it away. The net-minder argued she made the save, but Menard bounced over to the coach and gave her energetic appeal.
