Syracuse men's lacrosse returned to winning ways following last week's loss to Albany

Thirty-nine seconds into the third overtime of a back-and-forth game, Ryan Simmons scored the game-winning goal to cap a comeback win in a wild game for No. 16 Syracuse Orange (2-1) against No. 9 Army West Point Black Knights (3-1) at the Carrier Dome Saturday afternoon.

Syracuse opened the scoring exactly six minutes into the game. Nate Solomon potted his fourth goal of the season and 40th of his career to give the Orange an early 1-0 lead. Solomon now has goal in six-straight games, dating back to last season.

This was the lowest scored goals by SU since 2002.

After last week’s 21-4 win against Binghamton, Syracuse had plenty of momentum to begin their 2018 season.

The University of Albany, SUNY eradicated any momentum that the Orange had coming into Saturday. The third-ranked Great Danes defeated the seventh-ranked Orange 15-3 for just their second win in program history over Syracuse.

The Orange scored 13 unanswered to open the 2018 season.

Binghamton was expected to be a tough challenge for Syracuse in the Orange’s season opener.

Early on, it was clear that wasn’t going to be the case.

The Orange just kept scoring and scoring and would go into the 2nd quarter up 8-0. The Bearcats didn’t find the back of the net until three minutes left in the first half when Syracuse was already up 13-0. The Orange would go onto win the game 21-4.

“Well I think it was a terrific start to our 2018 season," head coach John Desko said after the game.

Molloy makes crucial save in last seconds to preserve SU's victory at the Carrier Dome.

Binghamton men’s lacrosse attackman Griffin Konen received a pass in front of the Syracuse net with time running down and a chance to tie the score.

The Bearcats were trailing by one with 11 seconds left in the game when Ryan Winkoff found Konen cutting to the goal. Konen caught the ball and fired a shot at the Orange net, looking to force overtime.

But, SU goalie Evan Molloy deflected the ball away to preserve a 9-8 Orange victory at the Carrier Dome.

SU scores 10 unanswered goals to cruise past Big Red, 15-8, at the Carrier Dome.

The Cornell men’s lacrosse team (3-7, 2-2 Ivy) and No. 1 Syracuse (9-1, 3-0 ACC) aren't necessarily friends, and it showed Tuesday night at the Carrier Dome in front of almost 3,000 fans.

Thirteen penalties in total were called, something Cornell head coach Matt Kerwick says was just another day in the office for these two teams.

March 5, 2017 - 10:46pm
No. 12 SU scores 10 second half goals to beat No. 11 Cavaliers at the Carrier Dome.

This game had all the makings to be a blowout win for Virginia (4-2, 0-1 ACC). Syracuse entered halftime down four goals, and that deficit quickly grew. A Nate Solomon goal opening the half for Syracuse (3-1, 1-0 ACC) was answered with Virginia goals from Dox Aitken and Zed Williams (2 goals, 1 assist), and at the 11:06 mark in the third period, the Orange was trailing, 10-5.

February 11, 2017 - 9:57pm
No. 5 SU outshoots Saints in 19-6 victory at the Carrier Dome.

The No. 5 Syracuse men’s lacrosse team won its opening game against Siena, 19-6, on Saturday, getting its season off to a perfect start. Syracuse has opened its season against Siena four years in a row and has won all four times.

The Orange dominated the game and outscored Siena in all four periods. Back in the comfort of the Carrier Dome after a long off-season, Syracuse head coach John Desko was pleased with the way his team performed.

Recent UNC transfer Nicky Galasso will miss all of the 2013 men's lacrosse season for the Orange due to injury

SU attackman Nicky Galasso will undergo surgery for a lower-body injury. The surgery will force Galasso to miss the entire 2013 season for the Orange.

Galasso, a native of West Islip, N.Y., transfered to Syracuse this season after spending the last two years playing for the University of North Carolina. During his time with the Tar Heels, Galasso recorded 65 points (30 goals and 35 assists), including 24 goals and 32 assists as a freshman in 2011.
