Turnovers prove costly in SU's loss to Rutgers

Failure to take advantage of their offensive chances, Orange football falls to Rutgers 23-15 in Piscataway.

There wasn’t too much positive to take out of Saturday afternoon’s 23-15 loss to No. 20 Rutgers Scarlet Knights (6-0). Turnovers were the killer for Syracuse Orange (2-4). Rutgers forced a total of five turnovers, three of which came at the hands of quarterback Ryan Nassib. 

The Orange played well during the first half of the game. After Rutgers took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, the Orange responded in the second with a three-yard touchdown run by Adonis Ameen-Moore.

The Orange trounces the Scarlet Knights at the Warrior Classic in Charlotte, N.C.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (5-8, 1-4 Big East) jumped out to an early 2-1 lead against the Syracuse Orange (6-5, 3-1) on Saturday at the Warrior Classic in Charlotte, N.C., but it didn't hold that lead for long. The Orange went on to score 12 straight goals, taking a 13-3 lead into halftime. The second half featured more domination until the last second ticked off the clock. The final score was 19-6. 

Here are three thoughts of the game:

1. Don't get too excited.

The Favorite - Syracuse

No one in the Big East combines raw ability with length and athleticism like the Orange do.

The Dark horse - Cincinnati

The Bearcats have the guards to make a run and create mismatches with their small lineup.

Knocked out early - Notre Dame

Had a big win over SU, but ND relies too much on the long ball. If they're not falling the Irish will have a short stay in New York City.

Senior Scoop Jardine and sophomore C.J. Fair helped lead the No. 2 Orange past the Scarlet Knights on the road.

Syracuse (27-1, 14-1 Big East) continued its tear through the Big East with a hard-fought 74-64 victory over Rutgers (12-15, 4-10) on Sunday at the RAC. Senior point guard Scoop Jardine led the way for the Orange with 17 points and seven assists. The game was close throughout until Jardine nailed a 3-pointer with 72 seconds left to increase the lead to seven. Sophomore forward C.J.

SU holds off pesky Rutgers team for 84-80 overtime victory

Syracuse used 47 free throw attempts to supplement a lackluster shooting night and make just enough plays to hold off Rutgers in overtime Saturday, 84-80.

On the way to the Carrier Dome Saturday, 28,944 fans endured the freezing temperatures outside, most expecting to see Syracuse grab another Big East win. But instead they got a chance to witness an overtime thriller.

SU looking to continue dominance over Rutgers Saturday

After breaking its losing streak with a comeback win over West Virginia Monday, Syracuse hopes to win its 11th consecutive game against Rutgers when the Orange host the Scarlet Knights Saturday.

Saturday Syracuse will welcome the Rutgers into the Carrier Dome. The Orange will be looking to extend their winning streak against the Scarlet Knight’s to 11 straight.

Orange takes care of Rutgers, restores health of program

With recruits on the sideline and the parents in the stands for Senior Day, Syracuse dominated No. 25 Rutgers, 31-13.

The state of Syracuse football, and the status of the health care system in the United States, has run a similar path.


Hype and hope surrounded the hiring of Marrone (an alum and successful NFL coordinator), as well as the election of President Barack Obama (a community leader with pointed ideas and a lasting voice). Today, the products of both men move forward toward its goal after adversity, using solid footing and some timely motivation to invigorate the masses once more. 

Field Hockey hosts cheap Halloween party

The No. 5 ranked Orange field hockey team closes the regular season against Rutgers on Oct. 31; game time is 1 p.m.

After getting tricked in Boston last weekend, the Syracuse field hockey team looks to treat the fans on Saturday.
 
The Orange returns to J.S. Coyne Stadium on Halloween after spending the past two weekends watching the leaves change across the Northeast.
