The forecast was a dreary one Saturday, both in eastern New York weather and on the football field in Louisville, Ky. The two truths held up: Saratoga County got drizzle all day, while the Orange and the Cardinals slogged to a 10-9 score (in favor of Louisville).

Instead of watching the two teams work on punting the football, Halftime Snack found distractions elsewhere:

Phantogram, a band based in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., delivers tons of energy and electro beats.

I was in Geneva, N.Y., last February solely to see Ra Ra Riot. It was a literal homecoming for CNY’s indie darlings, since guitarist Milo Bonacci is originally from Geneva.  And, as usual, their set didn’t disappoint. But yet another Ra Ra Riot triumph isn’t what I left raving about.

Instead, I was introduced that night to a duo from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., called Phantogram. They were the opener’s opener and, since it was held in the local opera house...

SU grad student searches for alternate resources when loan money stalls.

The summer is over and all my money is gone. 

I moved from Philadelphia to Syracuse during the summer, had a nose job to eliminate snoring, and bought a car. 

I, perhaps like you, have no job, no cash, and I’m at the mercy of the student loan money. 

I turned to horse racing, in need of financial energy.

Horse races have been run on Union Avenue for 145 years. New Yorkers love gambling:  gotta take money to make money.

Horse races have been run on Union Avenue in Saratoga County for 145 years. It is "the August place to be."  New Yorkers love gambling and love their equines.

Walk through the front gates, take in the air of royalty (it is the sport of kings).  The scent of thoroughbred is pungent, the anticipation of money is liberating.
