Hemingway leads Orange past Bulls

Senior forward Iasia Hemingway scored 24 points in a victory over South Florida

The Syracuse women’s basketball team (15-9, 4-6) soared past South Florida to seal a 76-61 win in the Carrier Dome Saturday afternoon. SU senior forward Iasia Hemingway led the Orange with 24 points and tied her career-high with five assists. Also scoring in double figures was junior center Kayla Alexander and junior guard Elashier Hall. They knocked down 17 and 14 points respectively.

Rockets edge Orange in overtime thriller

After leading most of the game, Syracuse fell to Toledo in overtime of the quarterfinals of the WNIT Sunday, 71-68. The game was played on the Rockets home floor.

The Syracuse Orange came up just short against the Toledo Rockets in a hard-fought overtime loss in the WNIT quarterfinals, 71-68, to end its 2010-2011 campaign. SU freshman Rachel Coffey attempted an off-balance 3-pointer as time expired, but it rimmed out.

Lady Orange rally for 55-53 road win in Cincy

Syracuse shook off a slow start Tuesday then came back from 19 points down to beat Cincinnati, 55-53, to win the Orange's fourth straight game.

Syracuse carried a three-game winning streak into Cincinnati, but the game did not start out in SU’s favor. The Orange were able to respond though, as they turned a 19 point deficit into a two point win, beating the Bearcats, 55-53.

The Orange (20-6, 8-6) had one of their worst starts of the season, while Cincinnati jumped out to a 23-5 lead. The Bearcats were led by Shareese Ulis who made three early 3-pointers. Ulis was on fire from the start, and finished with a game-high 20 points. Kayla Cook and Jeanise Randolph also chipped in, with 13 and eight points, respectively.

Lady Orange rally for road win over St. John's

Syracuse shook off a seven point halftime deficit and closed the game on a 17-6 run to secure a big win on the road at St. John's.

The Syracuse University women’s basketball team improved to 19-7 after defeating St. John’s University on the road Saturday, 78-67. Starting center Kayla Alexander led SU with a game-high of 26 points and eight rebounds.

Orange women hold off Louisville for 53-45 home win

Behind the play of Iasia Hemingway and Kayla Alexander, Syracuse shook off a poor shooting night and made just enough plays to beat Louisville Wednesday with a score of 54-45.

When watching the Syracuse women’s basketball’s game Wednesday night, it was impossible not to notice an Orange guard zipping around the court. She was seemingly everywhere at once, driving through players on her way to the net, throwing her body across the court to guard an open opponent. 

In a game of poor shooting percentage and low scoring, Iasia Hemingway’s grit was needed on both sides of the court. An exciting, back-and-forth game against Louisville, that Syracuse held on to win, 53-45.

DePaul hands SU women third straight loss

DePaul used hot shooting from beyond the arc to beat Syracuse Wednesday, 77-61, and hand the Orange only their second home loss of the season.

In a span of eight minutes in the opening half, the Syracuse women’s basketball team went from being down nine points to leading by two. During that time, Orange players pounced on loose balls on the ground, snagged rebounds off the glass and scored from all locations on the floor.

But it was a tale of two halves for Syracuse against No. 10 DePaul Tuesday night at the Carrier Dome. Although they played some of their best basketball on both ends of the court in the opening half, the Blue Demons stormed back in the second half and trumped Syracuse by a score of 77-61.  

SU women keep on rolling at home with win over South Florida

South Florida had no answer for the Orange attack Saturday as Syracuse jumped out early and rolled to a 78-57 victory.

On the first play of the Syracuse women’s basketball game Saturday, guard Tasha Harris passed the ball to Iasia Hemingway waiting in the low post. Hemingway spun and shot the ball into the basket. It was a play that Syracuse repeated often with great effect.

Defense, rebounding lead SU Women to victory over Pitt

Syracuse continued its dominance on the boards to beat Pittsburgh 69-60 at the Carrier Dome.

Entering Wednesday night’s game versus Pittsburgh, the Syracuse women’s basketball team was ranked first in the nation in rebounding margin. The Orange relied once again on their defensive prowess, as they  beat the Panthers 69-60.

Syracuse out-rebounded the Panthers by a 50-36 margin, in a game dominated by physical play. Four Orange players had eight or more rebounds each.

Syracuse women battle identity fraud

Orange have more variations this season than the unpredictable Onondaga County weather, which was above 50 degrees in December and is plunging to single digits this weekend.

Basketball success flows not just with the SU men this season. The Orange women are 13-1, have already achieved a national ranking and are eschewing individual accolades in favor of victories.

Orange you glad it's basketball season

The Syracuse women are 9-0 for the first time since 1974-75, have a national ranking and are now beating NCAA tournament teams.

The Orange (9-0) limited Dartmouth (2-5), the defending Ivy League champion, to 28 percent shooting in a 56-42 victory Sunday afternoon in the Carrier Dome for its 19th consecutive non-conference victory.
