With three coffee roasters in Syracuse, it can be hard to decide where to get a caffeine fix. Here's a break down of what to expect at each.

Syracuse has three coffee roasters vying for the attention of caffeine addicts across the region, but who serves the best cup?

Freedom of Espresso has four locations sprinkled throughout Syracuse, Liverpool and Fayetteville. The Fayetteville shop, 128 W. Genesee St., is their home base and roasting facility. The pumpkin latte from Freedom was well balanced—I could taste the espresso while still having that hint of sweet. However, the milk was not steamed properly.

With the holidays fast approaching and autumn well under way that can only mean one thing in the Red Kitchen, it's pumpkin time. The incredible, edible squash of choice is perfect for breakfast, snacking and (the most important meal of the day) dessert.

We know its been awhile since the last edition, but never fear, the ladies from the Red Kitchen are back and, in even better news, so is Pumpkin Season.

Entry Three: The Return of the Pumpkin

When mid-September rolls around, the coffee shops and bakeries begin their autumnal tease by spicing up their pastries and desserts with nutmeg and cinnamon. Honeycrisp and Empire apples are ripe for picking and bottled apple cider sits ready to percolate on the stovetop. 

But nothing is more enchanting than the return of canned pumpkin to the grocery’s forefront.

Some people are completely content with carving the same old triangle-eyed, toothless grinning face into their Halloween pumpkin year after year. Others, however, are up for something a little more challenging.

“By the time I entered my teens, I started to do more advanced carvings with the patterns you find in store-bought kits,” said Zombie Pumpkins owner and lifelong Halloween enthusiast Ryan Wickstrand. “It didn't take long for me to get the urge to design my own, and I never looked back.”
