SU is now eliminated from bowl contention for the first time since 2011.
The Carrier Dome hasn’t been kind to the Syracuse Orange this season.
Hoping to keep its postseason hopes alive against Duke on Saturday, the Orange instead dropped its third straight game, 27-10, in front of 39,331 fans on Senior Day. SU will finish 1-5 at the Dome and out of the bowl picture.
SU forced five turnovers, but mustered only 15 points at MetLife Stadium on Saturday evening.
Through the first quarter, Syracuse matched up with Notre Dame as well as any team had during the 2014 season.
Unfortunately for the Orange, there was still 45 minutes of play.
On a humid Saturday night in front of 76,802 fans, the largest crowd ever for a college football game at MetLife Stadium, the Orange sputtered midway through its contest with the No. 8 Fighting Irish and fell 31-15.
The SU offense piled up 589 yards, but a pair of turnovers and special-teams blunders proved costly.
Playing in front of an announced crowd of 40,511 and looking to go 3-0 for the first time since 1991, Syracuse just couldn’t get out of its own way.
Numerous drive-stalling penalties, dropped interceptions and poor plays on special teams doomed the Orange in a disappointing 34-20 loss to the Maryland Terrapins at the Carrier Dome on Saturday.
Syracuse could not contain the potent offense of No. 3 Clemson. Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins torched the Orange in a 49-14 thrashing Saturday afternoon.
Syracuse football’s introduction into the Atlantic Coast Conference didn’t go as planned on Saturday as No. 3 Clemson beat the Syracuse 49-14.
“We got beat by a doggone good football team today,” head coach Scott Shafer said. “There’s a reason why they are top three in the country.”
Quarterback Terrel Hunt was responsible for five touchdowns and the special teams forced four turnovers as the Orange dominated in a 52-17 victory over the Green Wave.
The Syracuse Orange became the 15th FBS program to win 700 games Saturday, beating Tulane 52-17. Terrel Hunt led the offense in his first career start, completing 16 of 21 passes for 175 yards and four touchdowns and running in another score.
“I thought Terrel played really well,” head coach Scott Shafer said. “If he stays in rhythm he’s pretty good.”
Hunt was especially on point in the first half, going 14-for-17 passing.
The Orange failed to capitalize on opportunities, eventually falling to Penn State in MetLife Stadium.
Drew Allen’s career at Syracuse got off to an inauspicious start on Saturday at MetLife Stadium when the first snap from scrimmage for the Orange was botched for a 3-yard loss.
Things didn’t get much better for Syracuse, either, as Allen completed just 16 of 37 passes in a 23-17 loss to the Penn State Nittany Lions (1-0) in the second New York’s College Classic.
After losing multiple starters and coaches this offseason, Syracuse football looks to build on last years success with some familiar faces, including a friendly competition at quarterback.
