Cosplayers get ready for RetroGameCon 5 in Syracuse

Cosplayers from all over will attend Syracuse's retro video game-themed convention this weekend at the Oncenter, donning elaborate themed costumes.

In a posted Instagram photo, John Bass looks like a knight in 21st century armor ready to take on a supervillain. Black and silver metal plates cover him from head to toe, a fiery red light glows from his chest, two square-shaped hand cannons are on his wrists and another appears on the suit’s shoulder ready to fire Nerf darts. The costume is based on the Marvel Comics character War Machine, who appears in the Marvel Studios films and is portrayed by actor Don Cheadle.

'Rent' remains as poignant as ever during 20th anniversary tour

Jonathan Larson’s Rent is, distilled to its purest form, a story about life and what you do with it. One of the musical's most quoted lines is "No day but today" - a sentiment that is as poignant today as it was when Larson premiered it off-Broadway in 1996.

The 20th anniversary tour of Rent, which played at the Oncenter Crouse Hinds Theater from Nov. 15-17, provides audiences with heartfelt, powerful performances and proved why the musical has lasted 20 years.

As musical theater fans would likely tell you, The Producers is one of the funniest musicals of the 21st century. Written by Mel Brooks, the musical was adapted from his 1968 film into a 2001 Broadway musical. Starring Nathan Lane as Max Bialystock and Matthew Broderick as Leo Bloom, the musical won three Olivier awards and a record-breaking twelve Tony awards.

Country music stars Darius Rucker, Cam and David Nail stopped in Syracuse on their Southern Style Tour.

Country music fans packed the Oncenter War Memorial Arena in downtown Syracuse Thursday night to listen to Darius Rucker and other Nashville stars. David Nail and Cam opened up for Rucker as they made their stop in Syracuse on their Southern Style Tour.

Thirteen Central New York businesswomen received awards for their leadership examples and services to the community at the Successful Business Women Awards. The event, produced by BizEventz, took place on Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Oncenter, 800 S. State St., in downtown Syracuse. 

WWE Live Returning to Syracuse

The Oncenter War Memorial Arena will again play host to some of your favorite superstars.

WWE Live will return to Syracuse's Oncenter War Memorial Arena on May 1 at 7:30 p.m., according to a press release from The Oncenter.

The event is scheduled to feature a number of marquee WWE superstars, including Daniel Bryan, Big Show, Ryback, Dean Ambrose, Rusev and the WWE Divas. The lineup is subject to change.

The Syracuse event will take place only 16 days before the "Payback" pay-per-view.

Tickets start at $15 and go on-sale Saturday, March 14 at 10 a.m. They can be purchased at the Solvay Bank Box Office, by phone or through Ticketmaster.
