Syracuse pulled away late in the first half and extended its lead throughout the contest to push past Northwestern, 11-7.

No. 3 Syracuse (9-1) edged No. 7/8 Northwestern (4-3) 11-7 Sunday afternoon at the Carrier Dome and earned its first victory over the Wildcats in 11 meetings to improve its record to 9-1.

“No matter what players they have on the field they know how to win,” Alyssa Murray said. “I think that’s very telling of our team this year. We were able to dig deep and even though they came out and scored two quick ones on us, we were able to bounce back from that and make a good run on them to close out the game.”

Orange overcomes early mistakes but ultimately drops home opener, 42-41.

The Syracuse Orange completed a 22-point comeback behind a record-breaking performance from Ryan Nassib, but a late Northwestern touchdown propelled the Wildcats to a 42-41 victory.

Midway through the third quarter, the Orange found itself down 35-13. Plagued throughout the first three quarters by mental mistakes and penalties, Syracuse seemed destined for a disappointing loss. The game was far from over, though.
