Led by one of the nation's best players in goalkeeper Alex Bono, the Orange became a legitimate ACC contender.

Magical. Remarkable. Extraordinary.

Heartbreaking.

With a painful 2-1 overtime loss to Georgetown in the third round of the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship on Nov. 30, a monumental season came to a grinding halt for head coach Ian McIntyre and his Syracuse squad.

Fouls and offensive inefficiency plague the Orange in its second defeat.

In a game that needed overtime to yield a victor, Syracuse fell 2-1 to Atlantic Coast Conference rival Louisville Friday night, snapping an eight-game win streak.

The Orange (12-2-0, 4-2-0 ACC) boasts one of the premier back lines in the nation, having allowed only three goals coming into the contest. Friday, however, marked the first the time team yielded more than two goals this year.

The SU sophomore has scored two goals this season to spark the Orange to a 4-0 start.

Syracuse soccer has gotten off to a great start this season, winning its first four games.

Sophomore forward Chris Nanco has been one of the biggest reasons for that success.

Nanco started the season by scoring in his first game and leading the Orange to the Central New York Classic, where he was named the offensive MVP. After scoring only four times last season, he already has a pair through SU’s first four games, including the only goal in a 1-0 Orange victory over St. John’s.

The senior's goal with three seconds remaining leads to exhibition win over the 2010 national champions.

Syracuse played its final exhibition game of the 2014 preseason Friday evening, and it waited until the final moments to strike.

With only three seconds remaining, Orange midfielder Nick Perea shoveled a loose rebound past goalkeeper Jake Fenlason to send SU to a dramatic 2-1 victory over No. 13 Akron at FirstEnergy Stadium-Cub Cadet Field.

Neither team could find the back of the net until the 56th minute, when Maryland's Dan Metzger fired the winning goal for the Terrapins.

The Orange men's soccer team (9-5-1, 2-5-1 ACC) hosted No. 12 Maryland (7-3-5, 4-1-3 ACC) in a pivotal conference match-up Saturday. In the end, the Terrapins emerged with a narrow 1-0 victory, courtesy of UMD’s Dan Metzger.

Despite out shooting the Panthers 20-1, Syracuse finished in a scoreless 0-0 tie Saturday night.

The opportunities to capitalize on the scoring chances were endless for Syracuse. Facing winless Pittsburgh, the Orange continued to show its aggression as the opponent drifted into a passive state.

Unfortunately, the Orange (8-4-1) were unable to score the one goal needed to take down the Panthers (0-6-4), as the game ended at 0-0 in double overtime.

“All the chances we had, the ball just didn’t want to get in the back of the net today,” midfielder Stefanos Stamoulacatos said. “We had our chances.”

Orange players on all sides of the ball contributed in the shutout victory over the Minutemen.

Nick Perea, Stephanos Stamoulacatos and Juuso Pasanen all scored in Syracuse’s 3-0 win over UMass.  While the Orange dominated the scoreboard, they also held advantages in other facets of the game as well.
