My Lucky Tummy features local fare from 5 foreign countries for its main fall event

Chefs take part in the My Lucky Tummy event, which allows five amateur chefs to share a favorite meal from their homeland with the community. This year's event took place Saturday and tickets sold out.

Ingredients of all shapes, sizes, colors and smells were blended into five sets of dishes at this fall’s My Lucky Tummy (MLT) event. MLT organizes two pop-up food courts a year, each featuring five amateur chefs sharing a favorite meal from their homelands with the public.

The Internet plays sold-out show at Funk ‘N Waffles downtown

OFWGKTA band The Internet played its first Syracuse show to a packed house at Funk 'N Waffles downtown, and the group has hopes to return.

At 7:15 Sunday night, The crowd bum-rushed the 250-person venue of Funk ‘N Waffles in downtown Syracuse. Some concert-goers had been waiting as early as 5 p.m. to get a quality view at The Internet's Sept. 27 show, which is a part of its Ego Death tour.

“I missed them in Manhattan because I went to see Jonny Craig,” said Yvette McCloud, a Verizon T-1 tech coming all the way from the Bronx, New York, who was among the early arrivals. “They were playing across town [the same night].”

Spring Street Family Band performs in unique rock style at Rochester Dinosaur Bar-B-Que

Syracuse locals, the Spring Street Family Band, rocks central New York venues on its way up.

It's about 10:45 p.m on Friday night at the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in Rochester, New York, and people are having a hard time hearing over the music. The manager of the restaurant goes to the stage and tells the band to keep it down. For two songs, they do.

After the second song, bassist Dennis Lingel calls for a huddle.

“If we don't play louder, people are going to think we f------ suck,” Lingel said.

Amateur astronomer known as "Barefoot Bob" educates locals during monthly astronomy events across Central New York.

At the end of Wilson Drive, a quiet street in the sleepy village of Marcellus, New York, is a house on a small hill that stands out from all the others. The home would look like any of the other low-key ranches on the block if not for the 12 solar panels installed to the roof, or the eight-foot-tall wind turbine perched on top. A vibrant greenhouse takes up half of this already modest dwelling.

Though the weather was undesirable, both performers and students jammed through for an unforgettable Sunday Funday at Juice Jam 2015.

Port-o-potties lined up: check. Temperature super chilly (oh, you mean a super freezing 61 degrees?) Check. Dark gray clouds in the sky, complimented with a drizzle here and there? Check, check.

Yes, the atmosphere came off a little sad and droopy before the 11th annual Juice Jam show Sunday. But that didn’t stop the event, nor mood of the students getting hyped for the acts of SNBRN, BØRNS, Matt and Kim, iLoveMakonnen, Oliver Heldens and Big Sean.

The Lakeview Amphitheater joined other open-air venues that dot Route 90 as one of the premier concert spots when Miranda Lambert took the stage and around 10,000 fans jumped and threw their hands in the air.

Despite suffering from chronic Lyme Disease, Manlius resident Sylvia O'Connor raised four daughters, explored creative expression.

It wasn’t that she struggled to remember the names of her daughters’ friends. It wasn’t that she would forget to pick up her children after soccer practice. It wasn’t that she couldn’t remember the current year or how to count coins. It wasn’t that her foggy mind made her the family outcast. For Sylvia O’Connor, the worst part of Lyme disease was the pain, she said.

“Imagine if you slammed your hand into a car door and you could not extract your hand. You’re talking about pain that’s beyond pain — and you’re living with it,” O’Connor said.

Gov. Cuomo introduced a loan forgiveness program for the state that will make some students eligible to pay nothing for their first two years out of college.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo presented his “2015 Opportunity Agenda” four weeks ago at Albany’s Empire State Plaza Convention Center. The governor made 66 proposals including providing better assistance to New York state’s homeless population, investing in public works projects and reforming the education system.

The new nonprofit organization provides students with resources to succeed in today's technology-centered society.

Brooklyn on Tech, a nonprofit dedicated to building the next generation of technological entrepreneurs, held its first "Tech Flex Launch” in Dumbo, Brooklyn this Friday.

Founded in 2013 by two Syracuse University alumni, Jessica Santana and Evin Robinson, the nonprofit’s focus is Brooklyn.

“It’s not a secret. There has been an effort to address the digital divide, but there’s still a lack of meaningful participation in tech-related fields by those from historically underrepresented backgrounds,” Santana said.
