The first annual Little Black Dress event took place at SKY Armory on Thursday to benefit women in business.

Women entrepreneurs networked at the Little Black Dress fundraiser for the Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (WISE) Women’s Business Center at SKY Armory on Thursday.

SKY Armory, owned by Nicole Samolis, opened over a year ago. Samolis is aware of what it takes to be a woman entrepreneur because she built her own business. As a member of the WISE advisory board, the Little Black Dress event was her idea and her way of giving back to the organization.

Central New York herbalist Deb Thorna makes natural products to lessen the chances of getting sick during cold weather.

Winter will blow in soon, which could mean being surrounded by people coughing, sneezing and sniffling. Although there are prescription and over-the-counter medications, herbal tonics may be an alternative addition or solution to lessen the chances of getting sick. Herbalist Deb Thorna, 59, recently hosted a Winter Health with Herbs event as part of her Herb Academy program.

Thorna, a Petit Branch Library clerk, said she has studied herbalism for more than 15 years.

Cindy Schmidt paints colorful, cranky cats for her Cranky Cat Collection.

“I started painting cats, and they have basically taken over my life,” said artist Cindy Schmidt.

Schmidt created the Cranky Cat Collection around 2000, after noticing her cat paintings were more popular compared to her others.

Halloween came early for guests at the Zombie Ball this weekend.

The undead came to life on the dance floor during K-Rock's Zombie Ball at the Landmark Theatre on Saturday.

Attendees dressed up in their best costumes and slipped on their dancing shoes to boogie the night away.

Makeup artists painted on scary and bloody faces while guests dressed as zombies, vampires and witches hit the dance floor to songs such as Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye."

The Halloween spirit is in the air with Syracuse Fashion Week's third Snarl fashion show.

It’s not every day that a fashion show opens with little Danny Torrance wheeling down the runway on his iconic tricycle, only to be met by—you guessed it—those ghostly Grady twins and a most unsettling invitation to “come play.”

But this scene from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining did in fact unfold on a cobweb-covered catwalk in Syracuse’s historic Landmark Theatre on Saturday, for the third Syracuse Snarl fashion event.
