C.J. Fair will be the go-to guy for the Orange this season, but basketball beat writers Tom Rende, Tyler Greenawalt and Joe Diglio pick who will be the Orange's second option on offense.

C.J. Fair is recieving praise even before the regular season starts. He's already been named the ACC Preseason Player of the Year and looks to build on a stellar junior season where he averaged 14.5 points per game and 7 rebounds per game. Fair will get his stats, but who will become the Orange's number two man in the team's first season in the ACC?

SU rolls into basketball regular season with win over Ryerson

The Orange are still ironing out all the wrinkles, but continued a balanced attack in SU's 81-46 victory.

In its final tune-up before the start of the regular season, the Syracuse Orange defeated the Ryerson Rams 81-46 Tuesday in the team’s second and final exhibition game. The Orange boasted an extremely balanced attack, with 11 players seeing time on the court and all but one of them playing at least ten minutes. Just like Friday’s win over Holy Family, every player on the court scored, led by C.J. Fair, who finished with 18 points.

The Orange breezed through the Holy Family Tigers by a score of 79-41, but Boeheim was able to see how his newest team played together in a game situation, especially Tyler Ennis and Michael Gbinjie.

The Orange took no time to look back after its quick start to the season when they played Holy Family University Friday night in an exhibition game. The Orange took a quick 10-point lead thanks to the sharpshooting of Trevor Cooney, and would go on to beat the Tigers 79-41.

“We did a lot of good things and we did some things that, first time out, we’re going to have to do better,” head coach Jim Boeheim said. “It’s a good learning experience.”

SU basketball prepares for new players and a new conference

Freshman Tyler Ennis and sophomore transfer Michael Gbinije may be new to the team, but the entire SU team is new to the ACC.

The Syracuse men’s basketball team received a warm welcome to the Atlantic Coast Conference earlier this week at ACC media day. The Orange were picked to finish second in the league, behind only Duke, and senior forward C.J. Fair was selected as the preseason conference player of the year.

Orange Madness through the eyes of a first-year student

The energy of SU basketball began Friday night, and some saw what Syracuse basketball is like for the first time.

Throughout our daily routines, we rarely stop to think about the energy that surrounds us – the energy it takes to turn on the lights, the energy that goes into the production of our food or the energy used to heat our showers.

However, as I stood in the student section of the Carrier Dome last night for my freshman introduction to the long-awaited basketball season, energy was all I could think about. Never before had I been in a place where so much enthusiasm and excitement was packed into one building.

Never before had I experienced anything quite like Orange Madness.

The two squads displayed what each respective team will look like the annual Orange Madness. The event officially kicks off the start of the college basketball season.

The glitz and glamour of Orange Madness kicked off the start of the basketball season for both the men and women’s basketball team. The one night spectacle was held in front of a Syracuse crowd that got its first taste of what the 2013-2014 season may look like for both squads.

Orange Madness slated for Oct. 18

ESPNU will televise portions of the event, which gives the nation its first look at the Syracuse men's and women's basketball teams.

The official start of the 2013-2014 college basketball season is almost here.

This year's Orange Madness is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 18 in the Carrier Dome, according to the Syracuse University Athletic department. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the event scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ESPNU plans to televise portions of the event as part of the station's four-hour Midnight Madness coverage of college basketball.  Admission is free for all SU and ESF students, while general admission tickets will be sold for $5 on Oct. 7. 

Fair to return for senior year

Fair announces he will return for his senior year instead of declaring for the NBA draft.

It looks like the Syracuse basketball team won’t be losing a fourth starter to graduation and the NBA. CJ Fair decided Wednesday to stay for his senior year at Syracuse, according to SU Athletics.

“After talking it over with my family and my coaches, I decided another year at Syracuse was best for me,” said Fair. “I'm excited about working hard with my teammates to put together another great season and graduating has also been a goal of mine.”

Breaking: Carter-Williams declares for NBA draft

Sophomore guard Michael Carter-Williams decided Wednesday to declare for the NBA draft, according to SU head coach Jim Boeheim.

After a fantastic sophomore campaign, Michael Carter-Williams will enter the 2013 NBA draft, according to head coach Jim Boeheim.

“Michael has informed me of his intention to enter the NBA Draft,” Boeheim said. “He’s coming off a tremendous season and we appreciate all he’s done for Syracuse basketball.”
