SU students came together for the "Big Gay Dance" in the Schine Underground in support of National Coming Out Day.

More than 80 people from Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community and their straight allies took to the Schine Underground dance floor on Saturday night for the "Big Gay Dance." 

The fifth annual dance is a place for people of all sexual orientations to express themselves in a safe environment, said Chris Wakefield, a 21-year-old Syracuse University senior who organized the event.

A 'flash mob' staged by a Syracuse musical theater group provides the student center with an impromptu dance performance.

About a dozen Syracuse University students stopped people in their tracks Thursday afternoon with a “flash mob” dance performance at the Schine Student Center.

Flash mobs involve gathering a large people in a public place to perform or engage in an unusual activity. In 2008, dozens of students descended on the Quad to make snow angels.

Latin dance and culture shakes things up in Central New York.

Five years after La Familia de la Salsa emerged on the dance scene, the organization has become one of the largest and highly successful Latin dance groups in Central New York.  Brian Bromka, Founder and Artistic Director, formed La Familia around the same time he decided to leave his career as a real estate investor and begin teaching Salsa.  His passion for Latin music and culture inspired him to connect with others through dancing.

From the graffiti-scribbled dark alleys within the streets of the Bronx to college campuses nationwide, the art of break dance has become a popular trend among aspiring b-boys and b-girls nationwide.

On Syracuse University's campus, one break dancing group called the "Beat Munchers", comprised of about 15 to 20 b-boys and b-girls, practice this form of dance with a fiery passion. They have competed against other break dance crews at other New York schools such as Rochester Institute of Technology and State University of New York at Oswego.
