Sunshine was rare at past Mayfest celebrations, but this year Mother Nature pulled through. The mild weather and sun on Friday brought out Syracuse University students and their bright clothing to celebrate. Taking a break from looming finals, students ate, drank and danced the day away.

"Holidays at Hendricks" featured several well-known holiday songs including "O Holy Night," "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" and "Winter Wonderland."

The chapel lights darkened as both choir and audience members held onto lit candlesticks. It was the beginning of the concert’s final song, “Silent Night,” and a favorite of Emily Cirillo.

"The lights are turned out and the chapel glows," said Cirillo, director of the Hendricks Chapel Handbell Ringers. "To me, this is when the holiday season officially begins."

After weeks of criticism from students, up-and-coming house DJ Kaskade, alt-rockers Cold War Kids and Phantogram are set to entertain thousands in the Carrier Dome.

Is anyone going to Block Party this year?  That might be a question you hear around campus lately.

After University Union announced last month Block Party 2012 would feature DJ Kaskade and alt-rock act Cold War Kids, some students quickly vocalized their displeasure for the choices.

Past Block Parties brought acts such as Kid Cudi, Nas, Kanye West and N.E.R.D., so expectations for big name artists this year were high again.
