SU dominates in the paint en route to its best defensive performance in almost two years.

Syracuse pulled away to its fourth win of the season Tuesday night, defeating Loyola (Maryland), 70-37, at the Carrier Dome.

Although the 47-point victory might suggest the Orange’s offensive struggles are in the rearview mirror, head coach Jim Boeheim said that’s far from the truth.

"I thought our defense was good. That's it," Boeheim said. "Obviously, we have a long way to go on offense."

The Syracuse Crunch beat the Utica Comets 2-1 in a game that set the pro indoor hockey attendance record history Saturday night in the Carrier Dome.

Temperatures dropped inside the Carrier Dome as blades scraped ice for the venue's first professional hockey game Saturday night.

A record-breaking crowd of 30,715 fans attended the Toyota Frozen Dome Classic, the most ever for an indoor professional hockey game. On the ice, the Syracuse Crunch beat the Utica Comets with a tight score of 2-1.

“Central New York became big tonight,” Crunch owner Howard Dolgon said in a post-game interview. “There was a uniqueness to the event and we leveraged that. It’s a tribute to Syracuse.”

Strong performance in paint sparks the SU offense in easy victory.

Syracuse forward Michael Gbinije drained a jumper and drew a foul with only two seconds left on the shot clock late in the second half to give the No. 23 Orange a 13-point lead over the Hampton Pirates.

The 22,848 fans at the Carrier Dome erupted, but it was one of the few times during Sunday’s game they were able to do so.

An explosive fast-break attack helps the Orange overcome another slow shooting performance.

When the shots simply weren’t falling, No. 23 Syracuse turned to its signature 2-3 zone for the spark it needed in a 89-42 thumping of Kennesaw State Friday night at the Carrier Dome.

With only four buckets in 18 attempts from the field, SU struggled to get its wheels turning in the first 10 minutes, allowing the Owls to stick around early.

But as turnover followed turnover, a stout Orange defense paved the way for numerous fast-break opportunities that, before long, built a huge lead and got the offense humming on all cylinders.

The 40-year-old actor will take part in an on-ice stunt during one of the intermission periods of the Crunch's game against the Utica Comets on Nov. 22 in the Carrier Dome.

Despite poor shooting, the Orange cruised past Adrian in its final tuneup game.

As the second half began and the announced 7,680 fans rose to their feet, No. 23 Syracuse was nursing an unexpectedly low 13-point lead over D-III Adrian. Still, it was right on the doorstep of breaking the game open

Twelve minutes later, it had busted the door off its hinges.

Behind an impressive 23-0 run to begin the latter period, the Orange rolled to an easy 84-35 victory over the Bulldogs at the Carrier Dome on Monday night in its final exhibition contest of the preseason.

November 11, 2014 - 3:05pm
SU is now eliminated from bowl contention for the first time since 2011.

The Carrier Dome hasn’t been kind to the Syracuse Orange this season.

Hoping to keep its postseason hopes alive against Duke on Saturday, the Orange instead dropped its third straight game, 27-10, in front of 39,331 fans on Senior Day. SU will finish 1-5 at the Dome and out of the bowl picture.

The Duke head coach spoke highly of AJ Long and the rest of the Orange prior to their Saturday showdown.

Duke (7-1) head football coach David Cutcliffe spoke to the media Wednesday afternoon during the Atlantic Coast Conference's weekly coaches teleconference.

SU mounts a second-half comeback as new offensive weapons emerge.

After a disappointing conclusion to a once-promising 2013-2014 campaign, standout performances by two of No. 24 Syracuse’s marquee freshmen gave Orange fans plenty of reason to celebrate again Sunday afternoon at the Carrier Dome.

SU trailed by double digits early on, but seized momentum in the second half behind the play of Kaleb Joseph and fellow frosh Chris McCullough en route to a hard-fought 76-68 victory over Carleton.

The event featured scrimmages by both SU squads, along with a Legends Game, dunk contest, three-point contest and "selfie stations."

While Syracuse’s annual Orange Madness celebration didn’t feature Drake warming up on the court, there was certainly a lot of excitement at the Carrier Dome on Friday night.

Men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim came out for introductions in a Humvee. Former Syracuse forward John Wallace proved that, even at 40 years old, he can still throw down a dunk. And 10-year-old Nicholas Trivelpiece made a shot in the final seconds of the men’s scrimmage game.
