DPS, SPD and Carrier Dome security are working together to create a secure environment for the Dalai Lama's visit to Syracuse University next week.

While Syracuse University awaits His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s appearance on campus next week, extensive security planning from campus, local, and state police continue to work to make his trip possible.

“There’s an overall security plan,” said Department of Public Safety Associate Chief John Sardino. “And those who are working it know it and there’s continuity there. But there are different aspects that each agency is taking care of.”

Syracuse Orange faithful gathered hours before kickoff to grill, bounce and cheer their way to victory later in the Carrier Dome.

Fulfilling the traditions of fall weekend, thousands of Syracuse University football fans made their way Saturday to The Hill to cheer on the Orange. And sometimes what happens outside the Carrier Dome is just as exciting as what happens inside.

An announced crowd of more than 34,000 witnessed SU’s first win of the season against the Stony Brook Seawolves, following hours of music, refreshments and pre-game atmosphere that makes up  Saturdays.

The Carrier Dome will be home to an exhibition game between the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers in October.

According to a Syracuse.com article, this fall, Carmelo Anthony will be returning to the friendly, memorable confines of the Carrier Dome. This time, however, he’ll be suited up as a New York Knick, as Anthony’s squad will face the Philadelphia 76ers in a preseason matchup on Mon., Oct. 22.

The game will be a homecoming of sorts for Anthony who led Syracuse to a National Championship in 2003 and has since had the practice facility named after him.

World-renowned artists such as David Crosby, A.R. Rahman, Nelly Furtado and more slated to perform at concert in Carrier Dome. Advance Student tickets go on-sale Friday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m.

The artist lineup and Advance Student and general public on-sale ticket dates have been announced for “Common Ground for Peace”, a two-day forum led by the spiritual leader of Tibet, His Holiness the Dalai Lama.  Running Oct. 8-9, the event schedule will include academic panel discussions for students and faculty, a public talk by the Dalai Lama and a festival-style music event dubbed the One World Concert.

More than 2,000 students and Syracuse community members helped Relay for Life raise more than $149,000 for cancer research in the Carrier Dome on April 14.

It seems in today’s world, it is nearly impossible to find someone that has not been affected by cancer. Whether it be a family member, a friend or an acquaintance, millions of lives have been touched by the disease. 

Syracuse University students and members of the Syracuse community came out April 14 to fight back against cancer in the 10th annual Relay for Life.

Hundreds filled the Carrier Dome on Saturday, raising more than $175,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Approximately 2,000 people gathered in the Carrier Dome on Saturday night with a story to share on how cancer has affected their friends and family.

The annual Relay for Life event took place from 7 p.m. on Saturday and ran through the night until Sunday morning. The event is a culmination of fundraising efforts that have been taking place since the end of last year’s Relay.

Though funds are still being collected, this year’s Relay has currently raised $175,000.
