Alpha Phi Alpha hosted the 5th annual presentation of "Truth Be Told," which brought Anderson to Goldstein Auditorium.

Actor, comedian, and writer Anthony Anderson visited Syracuse University to speak about hit TV show "Black-ish" and his upcoming movie, BARBERSHOP: The Next Cut, premiering in theaters on April 15, 2016. The discussion focused on the "Black-ish" episode "Hope" which commented on racial injustices in society.

Activist spoke to SU students and community members about the new youth movement and how revolutionary change must begin with young people.

Distinguished civil rights activist Cornel West called for youth involvement in political movements Tuesday night during a speech in Goldstein Auditorium.

“I hope I say something that unsettles you, that unnerves you, that un-houses you,” West began his talk, which was sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha and the Student African American Society.

Throughout the speech, West encouraged young people and urged those in the audience to “think for themselves,” combat complacency of mind, and “make the journey from superficial to substantial.”

It began with a melancholy electric piano line, a blanket of turntabled beats and a haze of marijuana smoke drifting against a backdrop of blue light. Practically in unison, an army of camera phones pointed their tiny 4-megapixel lenses to the Goldstein Auditorium stage as rapper J. Cole took the stage with a grin, saluted the crowd and launched into “Welcome” from his 2009 mixtape The Warm Up
