DURHAM, N.C. — In a game with 35 missed threes and 48 points in the paint, Syracuse (18-11, 7-9 ACC) felt the pressure of Cameron Indoor Stadium and crumbled under Duke (24-5, 12-4 ACC) 60-44.

Syracuse tied the game with three minutes remaining, however couldn't grab the lead against the defending national champions.

An opportunity to secure a big Top-10 win at home versus North Carolina (22-7, 11-5 ACC) slipped away from the Syracuse Orange (18-10, 7-8 ACC), losing 78-74 on Wednesday.

In front of 27,165 fans in orange and blue, Syracuse tried multiple times to come back in the game and grab a late lead against a Tar Heels team entering the game on five-straight wins.

The Orange scored 13 unanswered to open the 2018 season.

Binghamton was expected to be a tough challenge for Syracuse in the Orange’s season opener.

Early on, it was clear that wasn’t going to be the case.

The Orange just kept scoring and scoring and would go into the 2nd quarter up 8-0. The Bearcats didn’t find the back of the net until three minutes left in the first half when Syracuse was already up 13-0. The Orange would go onto win the game 21-4.

“Well I think it was a terrific start to our 2018 season," head coach John Desko said after the game.

The Orange broke away from the Huskies in the second half, scoring 14 goals in the second half.

Number seven Syracuse women’s lacrosse began its season with a 23-11 victory over former Big Eeast rival Connecticut.  

The Syracuse offense tore the UConn defense to shreds from the opening draw. The Orange had 12 different players score in the game. Sophomore Emily Hawryschuk led the way with four goals while junior Nicole Levy, sophomore Vanessa Constantino and senior Neena Merola each finished with three goals.

This is in addition to the 15 players Coach Dino Babers signed in December.

Syracuse football head coach Dino Babers announced Wednesday the signing of three new student-athletes to the 2018 class.

This is the second signing day, with the first happening in December; a new format for college football.

"Having two signing days may be a little anti-climatic, but we still had to finish out a nice class," Babers said.

The process was a lot quicker than in previous years with the earlier signing period. Babers used some time to credit his staff with their work in getting the players.

The Orange have lost two straight games in the Carrier Dome, after winning its opening eleven games.

The Syracuse women’s basketball team lost its second straight home game of the season on Sunday afternoon to the fourth-ranked Louisville Cardinals 84-77.

The Orange gave up its second most points of the season to the Cardinals, led by junior guard Asia Durr. Durr, arguably the best player in college basketball this year, scored 27 points and tallied seven assists against the Orange.

“She’s just a fantastic player and she can really get a basket from anywhere on the floor,” said Syracuse head coach Quentin Hillsman.

This was the lowest points total ever by Syracuse Orange in the Carrier Dome.

The Syracuse Orange fell to the Virginia Cavaliers 59-44 in front of the biggest on campus crowd at a college basketball game this season. The Carrier Dome was filled with 27,083 fans to see the Orange take on the nationally ranked Cavaliers

Offense was the biggest problem on the afternoon for Syracuse against Virginia’s difficult defense. The Orange shot just over 33 percent from the field, while the Cavaliers shot almost 49 percent.

“That’s really the bottom line the last three games. We’ve had trouble scoring,” Coach Jim Boeheim said.

A personal achievement was the highlight of a rare home loss for the Syracuse women's basketball team, who lost 73-64 to Virginia Tech.

Tiana Mangakahia, a sophomore from Meadowbrook, Australia, recorded 13 assists in the loss. Her season total is now at 234, which eclipsed 231 previously set by Alexis Peterson. 

The two teams started the game off neck and neck. After the first quarter, Syracuse held a slim 12-10 lead. Neither team had scored a three-point attempt in the first quarter, with both the Orange and Hokies shooting 0-7 from beyond the arc.

This injury leaves a blow to an already depleted Syracuse front court.

Syracuse men's basketball freshman guard Howard Washington is out for the remainder of the regular season, Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim said.

Boeheim announced the news following Syracuse's 54-51 loss against Georgia Tech.

"He's out, permanently," Boeheim said.

The injury occurred during practice on Jan. 29. Boeheim did not disclose any more information about the injury. It was announced he was out for the game on Jan. 30.
