National Signing Day 2017 took place around the country on Wednesday and Syracuse was no exception.

Some refer to the day as Christmas Eve, because there is so much to look forward to and following all of the Orange's prospects signing, SU head coach Dino Babers thanked his team for the way they helped to recruit this year’s class.

“When I think about the 2017 recruiting class I think about the 2017 football team,” he said.

Walter Dodge came to Syracuse University in 1956 on a gymnastics and track scholarship, and has remained with the school’s gymnastics program ever since.

Now, the former athlete volunteers at the gym every week to help students work on their back handsprings or complicated vaults. The 79 year old said at this point, gymnastics is just a habit.

“It’s just something I do. I did it for so long and it was just part of my life,” Dodge said. “I never think about it. It’s something I do.”

Though now gymnastics is a part of his daily life, Dodge originally didn’t intend to be a gymnast.

“I wanted to be a pole vaulter,” Dodge said. “All the pole vaulters were gymnasts.

SU overcomes halftime deficit to top Demon Deacons, 81-76, at the Carrier Dome

After dropping two straight games away from the Carrier Dome, Syracuse men’s basketball returned home and topped Wake Forest, 81-76, on Tuesday night.

Andrew White III led the Orange with 27 points and Taurean Thompson added 18 points to give Syracuse a winning boost following an 18-point loss at Notre Dame.

Despite 29 points from Lydon, Hoyas top SU at the Carrier Dome

The Syracuse men’s basketball team lost 78-71 to the Georgetown Hoyas in the schools’ 92nd all-time meeting on Saturday. The loss was the first at home for SU (6-4) this season and the Orange have now lost four of its last six.

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim was honest about the performance after the game, saying his team made too many mistakes and that his guards needed to create more plays.

SU totals 55 bench points in 99-77 win at the Carrier Dome

John Gillon and Taurean Thompson came off the bench and combined for 45 points to lead the Syracuse men’s basketball team past Boston University, 99-77, on Saturday afternoon.

Gillon finished with 23 points and did most of his work from behind the 3-point line, knocking down six of his seven shots from downtown. Thompson totaled 22, shot 10-of-13 from the field and added his first career triple as well.
