SU got off to another slow start, but was able to turn it around with a strong second half to top Canisius 86-67.

There was a sense of déjà vu for the SU men’s basketball team Sunday afternoon in its home matchup with Canisius. Much like SU's opening night victory versus Northern Iowa, getting out of the starting blocks strong proved to be an issue once more in the Orange's 86-67 victory over the Golden Griffins.

Ross Krautman's 24-yard field goal pushed the Orange past Rutgers and helped Syracuse pick up its seventh win of the season to become bowl eligible.

Add another game to Syracuse’s schedule. SU kept its conference road record unblemished and became bowl eligible for the first time since 2004 as they beat Rutgers Saturday, 13-10.

Freshman kicker Ross Krautman connected on two field goals – a career-long 48 yarder and a go-ahead 24 yarder with 1:07 to play to guarantee the Orange a winning season and keep them in the hunt for the conference title. Going into the game Krautman – a New Jersey native – was excited about the possibility of kicking a game-winning field goal in his home state.

Syracuse used a big second half to run away from upset-minded Northern Iowa in its season opener Friday night.

There were no glass slippers or carriage rides home Friday night for the University of Northern Iowa. The Panthers, one of last season’s Cinderella stories, ran out of magic against Syracuse as they fell to the Orange, 68-46.

Syracuse shrugged off a slow start and exploded for 45 points in the second half to pull away from the pesky Panthers. The Orange were led by Kris Joseph and Rick Jackson who each chipped in 14 points. Freshman Dion Waiters also scored in double figures for Syracuse as he chipped in 10 – seven of which came in the first half.

After a troubled past Dion Waiters finds himself at Syracuse trying to become a star.

The old saying is unless you walk a mile in someone else’s shoes, you don’t know what they have been through. Dion Waiters’ footsteps started in the violent trappings of Philadelphia.  He says basketball was a life line.

“Coming from Philly, it’s hard out here,” reflective Waiters said. “So if anybody is successful, it’s a blessing because it’s a rough neighborhood. I’m just fortunate that basketball kept me out of trouble.”

After a shocking loss to Le Moyne a year ago, Syracuse showed the Dolphins who's boss in the Carrier Dome with a 91-48 win Tuesday night.

The Carrier Dome was filled with 10,546 fans hoping for some revenge Tuesday night after they witnessed a 79-82 defeat to a Division II school last season. The fans wound up witnessing a 91-48 victory and earning a little reassurance in the process before the games start counting.

November 6, 2010 - 7:40pm
Louisville shocked SU, ruining the party and making the Orange wait another week to clinch bowl eligibility.

There was a celebration Saturday afternoon on the Carrier Dome's Legends Field, but it was not being performed by the Syracuse University football players or the 40,735 fans in attendance. Both saw the first attempt at securing bowl eligibility slip through their fingers as Louisville ran onto the field in victory at the conclusion of a game marred by missed opportunities and penalties.

November 3, 2010 - 12:03am
SU basketball returned to action, dominating Kutztown in its first exhibition game of the season.

Senior big man Rick Jackson started off the 2010-2011 basketball season Monday night by quickly scoring the first two buckets of the game as SU went on to rout Kuztown.

October 30, 2010 - 5:08pm
Syracuse forces three turnovers for the second consecutive game as the Orange move within a game of bowl eligibility.

For the second straight week, the Syracuse defense forced three turnovers and the Orange moved one step closer to bowl eligibility as they throttled Cincinnati Saturday, 31-7.

Syracuse (6-2, 3-1) turned three turnovers into 17 points and held the Bearcats scoreless for the entire second half – the fifth time the defense has accomplished that feat this season – en route to the victory.

October 23, 2010 - 7:53pm
It did not look pretty, but for the first time since 2001, SU beat West Virginia.

One week removed from giving up a season-high 45 points at home, the Syracuse defense shut down the vaunted West Virginia offense and the Orange knocked off the No. 20 Mountaineers, 19-14, for the first time since 2001.

West Virginia (5-2, 2-1) held the edge in the majority of statistical categories, including time of possession, total yards and total first downs. However, the Orange (5-2, 2-1) won the category that mattered most: turnovers.

October 16, 2010 - 5:37pm
Syracuse can't capitalize on momentum and lose 45-14 to Pittsburgh.

The Carrier Dome was filled with 40,168 spectators for one of the most anticipated football games in recent memory. But by the end of the third quarter, the majority of those fans had filtered out as Pittsburgh routed Syracuse 45-14.

Following a conference opening road win last week, expectations were high for the Orange. However, SU’s offense sputtered on its opening drive and Pitt scored on its first play from scrimmage, a 79-yard bubble screen, setting the tone for the remainder of the game.
