As his movie opens nationally Friday, Sean McNamara shares the challenges of bringing Bethany Hamilton's story to the big screen.

Thirteen-year-old Bethany Hamilton was surfing with friends when a 1,500-pound tiger shark attacked her, biting off her arm.

In the years following Hamilton gained celebrity by adopting a positive attitude toward her personal tragedy and continuing to surf despite her handicap. In 2010 Hamilton ranked 20th on the Association of Surfing Professionals tour and won the National Scholastic Surfing Association competition just two years after losing a limb.

If one word could describe SXSW it would be “exhausting,” but in a very, very awesome way. 

For of four days, Austin, TX becomes the epicenter for the music world.  Live music pours out of every nook and cranny from noon to the late hours of the morning.  SXSW is an audio barrage that pummels even the most intense listeners into a tired mess so full of bliss that all one could want is to hibernate and dream of even more music.

Maude Barlow takes a tough look at the water crisis brewing up in the world and criticizes “big water” and governments for watering down a crucial issue.

“It’s a form of collective insanity to be drinking bottled water”, said Maude Barlow to the audience in Hendricks Chapel at Syracuse University. Because, "big water" is sucking out the water that belongs to people and then selling it back to them.

About 80 SU students and community members run the "Nearly Naked Mile" to raise money for the Westcott Community Center and national triathlon competition.

Joseph Prosnitz jumped and cheered at the College Place bus stop in the 30-degree weather and rain Friday night wearing nothing but running shorts, blue Vibram Five Fingers and a sombrero.

Three SU Remembrance Scholars spent spring break in Lockerbie, Scotland to see how Lockerbie residents remember the Pan Am Flight 103 tragedy.

From March 15-17, we took a trip to Lockerbie, Scotland, the crash site of Pan Am Flight 103.

At Syracuse, the Remembrance program focuses on what Pan Am Flight 103 means to SU most of the time, and sometimes forgets to take into account how the town of Lockerbie was affected by the tragedy, and how its memory affects the town today.

The popular DJ partied both during and after his set on Saturday to the delight of all at Goldstein Auditorium.

Diplo's show on Saturday was the most anticipated event on campus up to this point in the year. So when the DJ actively engaged our fondness for social media throughout his night in addition to providing what seemed to be a highly regarded set, it all lived up to the hype.

Syracuse University celebrates 141st birthday with National Orange Day.

The Office of Alumni Relations, the Traditions Commission and the Alumni Club of Central New York hosted National Orange Day, a celebration of Syracuse University's 141st birthday. The event featured carnival games such as mini hoops, and caricaturist JP Crangle entertained guests while refreshments were served. Performances by First Year Players and Orange Bhangra also delighted audiences.

The human rights activist and founder of International Bridges to Justice spoke Tuesday night at Hendricks Chapel to show how to promote judicial global change.

Karen Tse shared touching stories about tortured prisoners she met while working to champion human rights around the world when she spoke at Hendricks Chapel on Tuesday night.  

"The biggest obstacle that I see today is our own inability to believe in the possibility and the hope for a future where there is a torture free world," Tse said. "We can do this by putting building blocks together and creating infrastructure in these countries.”

From the national anthem singers to hecklers in Otto's Army, SU's dominance in the sport draws die-hard fans and dedicated workers to the the Carrier Dome.

When the Syracuse men's lacrosse team takes the Carrier Dome field, it's almost guaranteed there will be thousands in the stands cheering for the Orange. 

So with a No. 1 ranking and another national title in sight, SU opened its season Feb. 20 against Denver with nearly 5,000 lacrosse-crazed fans eager to witness the Orange and Pioneer clash.

James Balog takes a look at climate change and how people can help reduce their impact on the environment.

James Balog says there is a way to fix climate change, it just won't happen overnight. 

"Take one step at a time; you don't have to be a hero, you just have to take the next step," Balog told the Hendricks Chapel audience. "Do the best you can with the circumstances you have."
