Fall Out Boy has been an integral part of many college students' elementary and middle school lives. Whether you loved or hated the extremely long song titles, bassist Pete Wentz’s signature guyliner, and, of course, the music itself, you can't feign ignorance of their impact on pop punk and music as a whole. On Sunday, March 6, 2016, the band teenage America grew up with, stopped by Syracuse for their “Wintour Is Coming” winter tour.

Artists and fans gather to celebrate local music.

Crowds shuffled through the doors of the Palace Theatre Friday night to celebrate the annual Syracuse Area Music Awards. 

Walking into the venue was like walking into a house party; everyone was smiling, chatting, laughing and drinking together.  The salty smell of popcorn floated in the air as people walked around the foyer grabbing beers and greeting friends in the aisles of the theatre.

A twenty-dollar bill tucked in between her guitar strings; that is when singer-songwriter Ashley Cox said she realized her talents as a musician could take her beyond the street corners of Downtown Syracuse and into the city’s music scene. 

“I started playing on the streets just for fun, playing cover songs,” Cox said. “And I was drawing some crowds.”

The artists invited by Syracuse University’s Black Artist League brought an intimate hip-hop showcase experience to the audience on Feb. 12.

A few hours before the doors would open, the artists invited to the Black Artist League’s hip-hop showcase started to conduct mic-check. Over snippets of tracks coming on and off of the loudspeakers, Red Eyes the Don, of Union, New Jersey, and Static Shocca of the group Penthaüs Savages, of Newark, New Jersey, said to the audience that college shows restricted what could be performed in terms of content, but they said they still enjoyed doing any show.

The love story of two bohemian lovers takes place against the backdrop of the romantic city of Paris and sets the stage for a beautiful, but heart-wrenching tale. Syracuse Opera’s production of "La Bohéme" opened on Feb. 5 at The Crouse Hinds Theater.

Cadienne Obeng wants to be Shonda Rhimes.

Well, maybe not Rhimes exactly, but the senior communications and rhetorical studies major dreams of one day being a well-known television writer, as well as an occasional actor, much like the previously mentioned TV powerhouse. With that goal in mind, Obeng co-created a Syracuse University-centric webseries: “SU Struggle Bus.”

The talented student group has recreated the world of the anti-Vietnam War movement and the sex revolution.

What Theatre, Syracuse’s student-run theater group, began with eight architecture students at Syracuse University.

Originally named Warehouse Architecture Theater, the group was formed in 2006 by Danton Spina and Alex Coulombe as a way to provide architecture students a creative outlet besides working within their major.

Matilda packs the Landmark Theatre during its week long showing.

Matilda is an entertaining, smash hit filled with all the delights of Roald Dahl, and certain to make an audience fall in love with this beloved character all over again.  Written by Dennis Kelly with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, the First National Tour of the musical arrives at the Landmark Theatre fresh off of Broadway. The show opened on Dec. 1 and will run until Dec. 6.

University Union’s indie concert series brings artists wise beyond their years.

Sitting cross-legged on the ground wearing the skinniest of skinnies, cowboy-esque boots and a silk baseball jacket, 19-year-old Raury awaits his grand entrance. Three bars in he bolts on stage, snags the microphone and the crowd erupts. He meets the roar with the opening lines of “Forbidden Knowledge” from his recently dropped album All We Need.
