SU's Philly natives lead Orange past Villanova, 69-64

Syracuse used contributions from a trio of Philadelphia natives to help the Orange pick up a big road win and even the season series with Villanova.

Two nights removed from a lackluster performance at home against Rutgers, Syracuse responded with what may have been its best win to date. The Orange played one of their best defensive games of the season to upset No. 14 Villanova Monday, 69-64.

Led by a trio of Philadelphia-born players, the Orange used a smothering defense and caused the Wildcats to miss 16 of their first 17 field goal attempts – including a drought of nearly nine minutes early in the game. As a team, Villanova was held to 32 percent from the field and a dismal 19 percent (5-of-26) from 3-point range.

Balanced attack leads No. 1 Orange past Denver in season opener

Five different Syracuse players scored two goals and the Orange were never really threatened as they defeated Denver in their season opener, 13-7.

Following two lackluster scrimmages, the No. 1 ranked Syracuse lacrosse team finally got to take the field for a game that mattered. The Orange wasted little time showing why they’ve received such preseason hype, as they blew by Denver, 13-7.

Senior midfielder Jovan Miller started the route for the Orange with a 15-yard strike less than a minute into the contest, and Syracuse led 6-2 after just one period of action.

Orange hoping to even season series with Villanova

Villanova handed Syracuse its first loss of the season and snapped the Orange's 18 game winning streak. Monday, SU will travel to Philadelphia with an opportunity to return the favor.

After a thrilling overtime victory against Rutgers, the Syracuse Orange are heading to Philadelphia to face the Villanova Wildcats. SU will look to avenge its earlier season loss when Villanova defeated the Orange, 82-73, and snapped its 18 game win-streak.

SU holds off pesky Rutgers team for 84-80 overtime victory

Syracuse used 47 free throw attempts to supplement a lackluster shooting night and make just enough plays to hold off Rutgers in overtime Saturday, 84-80.

On the way to the Carrier Dome Saturday, 28,944 fans endured the freezing temperatures outside, most expecting to see Syracuse grab another Big East win. But instead they got a chance to witness an overtime thriller.

Orange women hold off Louisville for 53-45 home win

Behind the play of Iasia Hemingway and Kayla Alexander, Syracuse shook off a poor shooting night and made just enough plays to beat Louisville Wednesday with a score of 54-45.

When watching the Syracuse women’s basketball’s game Wednesday night, it was impossible not to notice an Orange guard zipping around the court. She was seemingly everywhere at once, driving through players on her way to the net, throwing her body across the court to guard an open opponent. 

In a game of poor shooting percentage and low scoring, Iasia Hemingway’s grit was needed on both sides of the court. An exciting, back-and-forth game against Louisville, that Syracuse held on to win, 53-45.

Triche, Syracuse rally in second half to top Mountaineers, 63-52

Behind the aggressive play of sophomore guard Brandon Triche, Syracuse erased a four-point halftime deficit to blow past Big East foe West Virginia in the second half for a 63-52 Valentine's Day victory.

Facing a four-point deficit at the half, it seemed like the Orange were headed for their fourth straight home loss. That’s when C.J. Fair and Brandon Triche decided to take over. The duo sparked what may have been Syracuse’s best half of the season, and helped the Orange to a 63-52 win over West Virginia.

SU women blow out Nova to get back on winning track

Kayla Alexander's game-high 22 points and nine rebounds power Syracuse past Villanova, 70-49, to avenge Tuesday's loss.

In Tuesday’s loss versus DePaul, Kayla Alexander scored just four points off two field goals. It was a large departure from the 14.2 points she averaged through her first 22 games.

Saturday afternoon, however, Alexander returned to her explosive offensive form. She scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds, leading the Syracuse women’s basketball team to a 70-49 victory over Villanova at the Carrier Dome.

Louisville adds to SU's woes, hands Orange another loss

No. 15 Louisville defeated No. 13 Syracuse for the seventh consecutive time Saturday. The Orange have now lost six of their last eight games.

A 20-point deficit proved to be a bit too much for the Orange to overcome Saturday, as they lost to the Louisville Cardinals, 73-69.

The next great? JoJo Marasco and the power of No. 22

Though he is only a sophomore, SU's JoJo Marasco has shown that he is one of the top college lacrosse players in the country. As a tribute to his talent, he was allowed to wear the No. 22 this season – a hallowed number at Syracuse University.

Hoyas pull away late to hand Orange third straight home loss

Georgetown closed Wednesday's game on a 9-1 run to escape Syracuse with a 64-56 win, the Hoyas' first at the Dome since 2002.

After righting the ship on the road, Syracuse suffered another setback at home Wednesday. The Orange hosted rival Georgetown, and despite trailing for much of the second half, the Hoyas rallied late for a 64-56 win.

The Orange played one of their best defensive games of the season and shut down the Hoyas vaunted Princeton offense for 38 minutes, but it was the final two that cost Syracuse the game.
