Early Raider goal too much to overcome for sluggish SU offense.

Syracuse came into Thursday’s showdown with Colgate riding a three-game winning streak, but had the wind taken out of its sails early against Colgate.

SU offense struggles in first conference game of season.

Facing the nation’s top-ranked team, No. 5 Syracuse suffered its first defeat of the 2014 season after falling, 3-0, to North Carolina on Friday afternoon.

The Orange (6-1, 0-1 ACC) saw its six-game win streak snapped as the Tar Heels (5-0, 1-0 ACC) dominated SU throughout the 70-minute contest.

North Carolina goalie Shannon Johnson's four saves led the Tar Heels, who posted their first shutout since blanking SU in the 2013 ACC Tournament semifinals.

The SU sophomore has scored two goals this season to spark the Orange to a 4-0 start.

Syracuse soccer has gotten off to a great start this season, winning its first four games.

Sophomore forward Chris Nanco has been one of the biggest reasons for that success.

Nanco started the season by scoring in his first game and leading the Orange to the Central New York Classic, where he was named the offensive MVP. After scoring only four times last season, he already has a pair through SU’s first four games, including the only goal in a 1-0 Orange victory over St. John’s.

SU faces the defending national champion Saturday night.

Although undefeated through four games, Syracuse still believes it has something to prove.

Especially with the defending NCAA champion coming to town.

With Notre Dame scheduled to invade SU Soccer Stadium on Saturday, the Orange is hoping to open its second Atlantic Coast Conference slate with a statement victory.

"They're a big team coming in here, and they're going to be a big test for us overall," senior defender Chris Makowski said. "We have to show them and the ACC that we are a good team, and we mean business."

Kati Nearhouse scores twice in Syracuse debut to lead offense.

Following a victory over Albany on Saturday, No. 5 Syracuse carried a 5-0 record into Sunday’s non-conference finale against Ball State.

The Cardinals also entered the match undefeated, and in order to remain perfect, the Orange needed to ace arguably its toughest test to date.

It did with flying colors.

Both Kati Nearhouse and Lauren Brooks scored a pair of goals as the Orange offense steamrolled to a 5-0 victory at J.S. Coyne Stadium. SU has now started three-consecutive seasons with at least six victories.
