Men's Soccer

No makeup date has been set for the non-conference matchup.

Mother Nature made sure the Syracuse University men's soccer team didn't have a chance to build on its breakthrough victory over Virginia this past weekend.

The Orange's Tuesday night match against Colgate was cancelled due to lightning in the area around SU Soccer Stadium. No makeup date has been scheduled.

SU (8-1-0, 2-1-0 Atlantic Coast) will return to action on Saturday, as it travels to Blacksburg, Va., to face Virginia Tech at 7 p.m.

Syracuse dominates Big Red for its fifth shutout of the season.

Cornell entered its matchup against No. 20 Syracuse with consecutive 1-0 wins over Binghamton and Lafayette, thanks in large part to a defense that had allowed only one goal all season.

However, Tuesday night was a different story. Syracuse had no trouble exploiting the back line of the Big Red and cruised to a 3-0 victory at SU Soccer Stadium.

SU hoops battles Bears, men's soccer receives votes and volleyball spikes across campus.

Syracuse will have to repeat some of its Maui magic to win the 2014 2K Classic.

The Orange's first opponent in the annual men's basketball tournament will be the California Golden Bears on Nov. 20, according to a Wednesday press release from Syracuse Athletics. Madison Square Garden will play host to the game, which is scheduled to tip-off at approximately 9 p.m.

The Orange could not overcome an early deficit, falling 4-1 to the Demon Deacons.

Syracuse dropped its final game of the regular season 4-1 to Wake Forest despite Emil Ekblom scoring his team leading 10th goal of the season.

Wake Forest claimed the lead halfway through the first half when Ian Harkes capitalized on the scoring opportunity to put the Demon Deacons up 1-0. Sean Okoli followed up a short time later to put his team up 2-0, a deficit that proved to be difficult for the Orange to recover from.

November 7, 2013 - 6:19pm
The Orange are 2-2-1 over the last five games and have failed to produce much on offense. But if SU wins Friday, it will go into the ACC tournament an 11-6-1 record.

When Syracuse defeated the Clemson Tigers for its biggest victory to date, there wasn’t too much time to celebrate. The Orange (10-6-1) needed to immediately prepare for at least one final road trip against Wake Forest.

A win is necessary to keep its chances of reaching the ACC Tournament. The top eight teams in the regular season will advance to the conference tournament. The Demon Deacons (8-4-5), meanwhile, have already clinched a spot in the postseason and currently hold the third seed in the conference.

Neither team could find the back of the net until the 56th minute, when Maryland's Dan Metzger fired the winning goal for the Terrapins.

The Orange men's soccer team (9-5-1, 2-5-1 ACC) hosted No. 12 Maryland (7-3-5, 4-1-3 ACC) in a pivotal conference match-up Saturday. In the end, the Terrapins emerged with a narrow 1-0 victory, courtesy of UMD’s Dan Metzger.

Despite out shooting the Panthers 20-1, Syracuse finished in a scoreless 0-0 tie Saturday night.

The opportunities to capitalize on the scoring chances were endless for Syracuse. Facing winless Pittsburgh, the Orange continued to show its aggression as the opponent drifted into a passive state.

Unfortunately, the Orange (8-4-1) were unable to score the one goal needed to take down the Panthers (0-6-4), as the game ended at 0-0 in double overtime.

“All the chances we had, the ball just didn’t want to get in the back of the net today,” midfielder Stefanos Stamoulacatos said. “We had our chances.”

October 5, 2013 - 11:01am
Stout defense and a hat trick from Emil Ekblom sealed the blow out victory over NC State.

The Syracuse men’s soccer team concluded its four-game home stand in style with a 5-0 win over ACC rival North Carolina State Oct. 4. Emil Ekblom was the star of the show, as the freshman striker grabbed his first career hat trick for the Orange.

September 10, 2013 - 12:30am
Alex Halis and Chris Nanco of Ontario Canada scored two goals a piece as the Orange cruise to a 4-1 victory.

When No. 17 Syracuse (3-1-0) took to the field on Monday night, it came with a vengeance. Coming off a disappointing loss in overtime last week against Virginia Tech, Syracuse was determined to improve its offensive production against winless Manhattan (0-3-0).

November 3, 2012 - 11:22pm
After SU earned a two-goal lead, the Irish scored four unanswered in the second half to snatch victory away from the Orange.

The Syracuse University men’s soccer team (12-6-0, 5-3-0 Big East) lost 4-2 to the No. 7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Saturday, Nov. 3.

The loss knocks Syracuse out of the Big East Tournament.

SU made its first Big East Tournament appearance since 2005.
