Droves of fans came out to Syracuse's annual Fan Fest on Saturday despite sporadic showers.

The 2015 Orange Fan Fest took place on Saturday afternoon at the SU Soccer Stadium and surrounding area near Manley Field House. The annual event showcased several of Syracuse’s athletic teams as they prepared for the upcoming fall season.

The Duke head coach spoke highly of AJ Long and the rest of the Orange prior to their Saturday showdown.

Duke (7-1) head football coach David Cutcliffe spoke to the media Wednesday afternoon during the Atlantic Coast Conference's weekly coaches teleconference.

Not surprisingly, Cutcliffe talked about the Blue Devils' upcoming date with Syracuse (3-6) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.

SU's defense forces four turnovers, but the offense fails to reach the end zone in a 10-point defeat.

Few people expected Syracuse to handle the pressure of a big-time road game, especially not the team’s first trip to “Death Valley” against the No. 21 Clemson Tigers.

Surrounded by fireworks, balloons and 80,031 screaming Tigers fans, the Orange walked into an electric Memorial Stadium. It was the largest crowd to witness a Syracuse football game since 2009, when the Orange played at Penn State (106,387).

But after a hard-fought 16-6 loss to the Tigers, the mood in the Orange locker room was extremely somber.

One receiver hits a new milestone, while a new coordinator rejuvenates the SU offense.

Record Breakers

Florida State wide receiver Rashad Greene had six catches against Syracuse on Saturday, but one of them had added significance.

With his fifth catch of the game in the third quarter, Greene set a new school record with 213 career receptions, passing the previous mark set by Ron Sellers in 1968.

Greene has also caught a pass in 35 consecutive games and is only four behind Rodney Smith's program record.

Additionally, Scott Shafer is making significant changes to his staff.

Syracuse will face the No. 1 team in the country Saturday, but it will have to do so without one of its best offensive weapons.

Quarterback Terrel Hunt, who left during the fourth quarter of Friday's loss to Louisville, has a fractured fibula in his left leg and will miss 4-6 weeks according to a press release from Syracuse Athletics.

Hunt leads the Orange with six rushing touchdowns this season and has also thrown for 983 yards.

Austin Wilson will lead the Orange offense in the second half.

Syracuse quarterback Terrel Hunt was ejected from Friday evening's season-opener against Villanova after throwing a punch at defender Dillon Lucas.

Hunt scrambled for a first down with 3:24 left in the second quarter when he was hit above the shoulders by Lucas. When both players landed on the turf, Hunt immediately clenched his left hand and struck the facemask of Lucas.

A Vine posting of the play can be seen here.

Syracuse fans given inside look before the 2014 season.

It was all about the next generation late Saturday afternoon at Syracuse’s annual FanFest.

In what has become a yearly tradition, SU opened practice for an afternoon dedicated to fans that support the team each season. This year, more than 1,500 attended the event.

Jerome Smith, Jay Bromley and Marquis Spruill were among 13 SU football players who had one final shot to increase their draft stocks.

Jerome Smith walked out of Manley Field House Wednesday afternoon like he’d just scored the game-winning touchdown for the Orange. With beads of sweat dripping down his face, Smith smiled widely. After a sub-par NFL Combine in February, Smith had cause for celebration: he improved his 40-yard dash time by over two-tenths of a second—from 4.84 seconds to between 4.5 and 4.6 seconds.

After winning its third bowl game in four years, Syracuse will play some of the best teams in 2013, including Florida State, Louisville and Duke in the Carrier Dome.

The Orange look to build off a solid 2013 football campaign with a pretty tough 2014 schedule.

After year that saw 11 Atlantic Coast Conference (12 if your count the impending inclusion of Louisville in 2014) play in bowl games, the Orange face eight of them next season, according to the SU Athletic Department

SU plays its season opener against former Big East rival Villanova on Saturday August 30 in the Carrier Dome.

January 17, 2014 - 4:16pm
Wide receiver Corey Cooper, quarterback A.J. Long, defensive tackle Wayne Williams and tight end Cameron MacPherson are enrolled for the spring semester and will practice with the team beginning on March 18.

Syracuse football ended with the Orange winning the Texas Bowl on Dec. 27, but head coach Scott Shafer is already gearing up for 2014.
