Tomaselli keeping Fine investigation alive

Despite recent reports indicating that Zach Tomaselli was requesting the end of the Bernie Fine investigation on his behalf, statements released today suggest otherwise.

Contrary to yesterday's reports, Zach Tomaselli, the third accuser in the Bernie Fine controversy, has stated via email that he was "misunderstood" in that report by the Syracuse Post-Standard.

 

Tomaselli drops case against Fine

Tomaselli bows out on his end of the Fine saga.

After a tumultuous 48 hours, Zach Tomaselli has asked the Syracuse Police Department to stop the Bernie Fine investigation on his behalf.

Tomaselli's accusations against Fine were first made public on November 31. That statement alleged that Fine had molested him the night before a Syracuse game against the University of Pittsburgh in the team's hotel room before the game. The game in question was played on Jan. 22, 2002.

Graduate student readmitted after 5-month expulsion for Facebook comments

A complaint on Facebook prompted the expulsion of a School of Education graduate student

A graduate student in the School of Education was readmitted Wednesday after a five-month expulsion stemming from a complaint he posted on his Facebook page, according to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education.

Matthew Werenczak was expelled from Syracuse University in September of 2011 for complaining on Facebook about a Concerned Citizens Action Program representative's comment he heard at his student teaching assignment at Danforth Middle School.

Fourth Fine accuser admits he was lying, wanted revenge

Floyd VanHooser stated, via letter, that his accusations against Bernie Fine were false.

Floyd VanHooser, the fourth man to come forward with allegations of sexual assault against Bernie Fine, has renounced his accusations. 

VanHooser is currently incarcerated at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, N.Y. for multiple counts of burglary and petit larceny. Onondaga District Attorney, Williams Fitzpatrick, had originally dismissed New York Daily News reports regarding a fourth accuser, at one point stating, "There is no fourth accuser."

Executive Assistant US Attorney, John Duncan offered insight into the Bernie Fine hotline the federal investigation opened last week. Fine is under federal investigation for allegations of sexual abuse levelled by Zach Tomaselli in addition to local investigations regarding Bobby Davis, Mike Lang, and Floyd VanHooser, who have all alleged abuse by Fine.

The US Attorney's Office has opened a hotline for tips in its ongoing investigation into the allegations against Bernie Fine.

On Wednesday the United States Attorney's Office announced that a hotline is now in service for tips on the federal investigation regarding the former Syracuse associate head coach of the men's basketball team.

Fourth Fine accuser comes forward

Another accuser in the Bernie Fine scandal has come forward, claiming the former associate head coach sexually abused him.

A fourth man has accused Bernie Fine of sexually abusing him over the course of four decades.

Floyd VanHooser, the accuser, said the abuse started in 1969 when he was allegedly taken in by Fine as an orphan, according to an interview VanHooser gave to The Post-Standard. At the time, Fine was not yet working for Syracuse University.

Jim Boeheim and Syracuse University have been sued for defamation in the New York Supreme Court regarding their treatment of allegations by Bobby Davis and Mike Lang against former associate head coach Bernie Fine.

Gloria Allred, a longtime civil rights attorney, announced Tuesday that she has filed a defamation suit against Syracuse University and men's basketball head coach Jim Boeheim on behalf of former ball boys Bobby Davis and his step-brother Mike Lang in New York State Supreme Court.
