The women's soccer team could not stop Maryland, eventually losing 3-1 in the final home game of the year.

With its season on the line, the Syracuse Orange took to the field at the SU Soccer Stadium for the last time in 2013 on a cold and rainy Thursday night.  Syracuse (7-9-1) took on a strong ACC opponent in Maryland (8-8-0), with both teams looking to make a push for the ACC tournament.  In the first ever meeting between the two, Maryland managed to pull off a 3-1 win, effectively ending SU’s chances of making the ACC tournament.

The energy of SU basketball began Friday night, and some saw what Syracuse basketball is like for the first time.

Throughout our daily routines, we rarely stop to think about the energy that surrounds us – the energy it takes to turn on the lights, the energy that goes into the production of our food or the energy used to heat our showers.

However, as I stood in the student section of the Carrier Dome last night for my freshman introduction to the long-awaited basketball season, energy was all I could think about. Never before had I been in a place where so much enthusiasm and excitement was packed into one building.

Never before had I experienced anything quite like Orange Madness.

Despite out shooting the Panthers 20-1, Syracuse finished in a scoreless 0-0 tie Saturday night.

The opportunities to capitalize on the scoring chances were endless for Syracuse. Facing winless Pittsburgh, the Orange continued to show its aggression as the opponent drifted into a passive state.

Unfortunately, the Orange (8-4-1) were unable to score the one goal needed to take down the Panthers (0-6-4), as the game ended at 0-0 in double overtime.

“All the chances we had, the ball just didn’t want to get in the back of the net today,” midfielder Stefanos Stamoulacatos said. “We had our chances.”

Sisters Carly and Cayley Mercer lead Clarkson past Syracuse, 2-1.

Sparked by two goals and an assist from the Mercer sisters, senior Carly and sophomore Cayley, No. 3 Clarkson (4-0) doubled up the Orange, 2-1, in front of 234 fans at Tennity Ice Pavilion.

Despite being outshot 41-18, Syracuse stayed within striking distance the entire game. However, it just couldn’t muster enough offense.

It was a tight contest for over 90 minutes, but in the end the Seminoles squeaked out the 1-0 overtime victory against the Orange.

The Syracuse Orange (5-7-1) women took the field Thursday night against No. 3Florida State University (10-0-3).  SU was looking to keep the momentum going after a 4-0 win at Pitt, its first ever ACC win, while FSU was coming off a win against Boston College.

Orange played tough until the final moments of the game, forcing FSU into overtime in order to draw a result, 1-0 in favor of the Seminoles.
