The junior has now suffered two ACL injuries within the past 10 months.

No. 21 Syracuse, off to a 10-4 start, will be without star guard Brittney Sykes for the rest of the season, according to a release by Syracuse Athletics on Tuesday.

Sykes, who left Sunday’s game against No. 4 Notre Dame, re-aggravated her surgically repaired ACL after originally tearing it last March in the first round of the NCAA tournament. She made her season debut on Dec. 28 and played in only three games this season.

A struggling offense and off-the-field distractions derailed a promising start to the 2014 season.

Syracuse head coach Phil Wheddon had one word to sum up the 2014 season.

Disappointment.

Although the Orange strung together a decent start, it began to hit a lull during the middle of the campaign and struggled to capitalize on scoring chances, an issue that became even more prevalent against four ranked opponents at the end of the season. SU finished with an overall record of 5-10-4 and failed to qualify for the Atlantic Coast Conference and NCAA tournaments.

Led by one of the nation's best players in goalkeeper Alex Bono, the Orange became a legitimate ACC contender.

Magical. Remarkable. Extraordinary.

Heartbreaking.

With a painful 2-1 overtime loss to Georgetown in the third round of the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship on Nov. 30, a monumental season came to a grinding halt for head coach Ian McIntyre and his Syracuse squad.

December 5, 2014 - 4:39pm
The sophomore led the team with 15 points as SU cruised to another non-conference win.

Despite a shaky start and a horrendous shooting performance, No. 21 Syracuse (6-1) made easy work of unranked Penn State (1-6) in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, defeating the Lady Lions 61-39 at the Carrier Dome on Thursday night.

Sophomore forward Briana Day led the Orange with 15 points, 13 of which came in the first half, and helped build a sizable lead that remained largely unchallenged for the majority of the game.

Two second-half tallies help SU overcome rare goalkeeping mistake.

Battling a one-goal deficit early in the second half, No. 4 Syracuse rallied back to defeat Penn State, 2-1, in the second round of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship at SU Soccer Stadium on Sunday.

“To come back from behind and win shows a lot of character,” Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre said. “I’m very, very proud of this group.”

The Orange (16-3-1) controlled the first half, keeping the ball in possession enough to fire eight shots while holding the Nittany Lions (13-6-1) to just one.

November 22, 2014 - 5:46pm
A late defensive stand helps SU rebound from loss to California.

The athleticism and scoring ability of lanky 6-foot-9-inch freshman Chris McCullough late in the second half gave Syracuse the extra push it needed to outlast the Iowa Hawkeyes, 66-63, on Friday at the 2K Classic at Madison Square Garden.

McCullough and senior Rakeem Christmas led the team with 20 and 18 points, respectively.

“At the end of the game, Chris made a great steal,” SU head coach Jim Boeheim said. “He just made a great play. That was the game...if he didn’t come across and get that one, then we don’t win.”

SU's recruiting class is considered among the best in the country.

Syracuse men's basketball head coach Jim Boeheim has announced that four players have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Orange next season, SU Athletics said in a press release Monday.

Moustapha Diagne, Malachi Richardson, Tyler Lydon and Franklin Howard have committed to SU for at least one academic year. The class is ranked fourth by ESPN.com and eighth by Scout.com.

November 17, 2014 - 4:25pm
SU's tournament appearance is only the third in school history.

The Syracuse University men's soccer team is seeded ninth in the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship, SU Athletics announced in a press release Monday.

The Orange will receive a first-round bye and face either Penn State or Hartwick in the second round at SU Soccer Stadium on Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. SU is one of seven Atlantic Coast Conference squads in the 48-team field that will vie for the title.

The star of MTV's "Jackass" will perform for fans during the event's marquee game.

Comedy and television star Steve-O, best known for his role on MTV's "Jackass" and its subsequent film series, will make a special appearance at the Frozen Dome Classic, the Syracuse Crunch announced Thursday morning.

The 40-year-old actor will take part in an on-ice stunt during one of the intermission periods of the Crunch's game against the Utica Comets on Nov. 22 in the Carrier Dome.
