SU women come up short vs BU in tennis

Orange can't handle Terriers in Boston, falling 6-1

The Track and Tennis Center at Boston University proved too much for the Syracuse Orange, who were defeated by the BU Terriers 6-1 on Sunday.  This loss puts Syracuse’s record at 7-2 on the season and stops their winning streak at six. The terriers have been unbeaten at home this season (5-0) and are currently riding a five game win streak.

Freshman Maddie Kobelt was the lone singles winner, defeating Monika Mical 7-6(6), 6-4. She and junior Emily Harman teamed up at first doubles to win 8-5, though Harman struggled in her singles match.

All of the women of the Orange fought hard, many splitting the two sets and requiring a decisive tiebreaker. Senior Christina Tan managed to win her second set 6-4 after losing the first 3-6, necessitating a third and final set, which she was unable to seal. But the players refused to go down without a fight, winning at least one game in each of their singles and doubles matches.

Syracuse hopes to rebound next Friday at home against Villanova at 6:00 p.m. The Wildcats have struggled so far this year and the Orange hope to win yet another Big East matchup.
