Jason Morales, a senior in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, died Friday night after he was struck by a car in New York City.
Morales was in New York City to complete his senior capstone project and was interning at St. John’s University, according to an email sent out by Chancellor Nancy Cantor to students, faculty and staff Saturday night.
Morales had been a member of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity where he once served as social chair, according to the email.
In the email, Cantor said Morales’ fraternity brothers described him as someone who had incredible perseverance and was not afraid to try new things.
“He was a friend to all,” Cantor said in the email. “During this very difficult time our thoughts are with Jason’s family, friends, colleagues, and the faculty and staff who knew him.”
A gathering on campus to remember Morales will planned at a later date, according to the email.
