Newhouse student found dead in Walnut Hall

The death is not being treated as a criminal incident and is currently under investigation.

A Syracuse University student was found dead in Walnut Hall on Saturday morning. According to an article posted on syracuse.com, the death is not being treated as a criminal incident and there are no threats to public safety.

The student was identified in an article posted by the Daily Orange as Britny Kabic, a native of Hatboro, Pennsylvania, and an advertising sophomore in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. According to her Facebook, Kabic was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority.

Kabic was put in an ambulance in a body bag around 11:42 a.m., the same Daily Orange article said.

Rebecca Reed Kantrowitz, senior vice president and dean of student affairs, sent an email shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday announcing Kabic's death, saying it was unexpected.

"I join Chancellor Syverud and the entire University community in extending our heartfelt condolences to her family, and friends, and all who knew her during this painful time," the email said. "Our thoughts are with all of those grieving this terrible loss."

Kabic's death is currently being investigated by Syracuse and campus police.
