Man stabbed at "Orange Madness"

On what is typically a night where SU students and fans celebrate the beginning of the Syracuse men's and women's basketball seasons, Orange Madness was cut 30 minutes short after a 25-year-old man was stabbed in the concourse area of the Carrier Dome.

The stabbing occurred around 9:30 p.m. following several fights that took place throughout evening, none of which involved SU students.

According to the Post-Standard, Sgt. Tom Connellan of the Syracuse Police Department said that the victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he is in stable condition. Connellan also added that no suspects have been identified, and the victim had not cooperated with SPD. 

Connellan also said that he has no reason to believe that the neither the victim nor the suspect was a SU student, NBC Sports reported.

In a statement released by Chancellor Nancy Cantor and Athletic Director Daryl Gross, they said: "We were saddened to learn of the incident at the Dome last night. There is no place and no tolerance for anything like this, and future Orange Madness events will be designed to prevent incidents such as this. We are proud of the terrific partnership among Syracuse City Police, SU Department of Public Safety, and Carrier Dome security staff, and we are confident that their work will continue to maintain a safe and secure environment for our patrons who come to the Dome to enjoy the hard work and efforts of our student-athletes."

This is just the latest of numerous different criminal acts that have taken place around the SU campus, and one of the most serious.

Approximately 15,000 people attended this event. 

The victim has yet to be identified, and Syracuse Police is currently investigating the incident.
