His Holiness the Dalai Lama brings "Common Ground For Peace" to SU

The two-day forum and concert in the Carrier Dome is expected to be one of the largest gatherings of international artists including Dave Matthews, Nas and more

Syracuse University will host “Common Ground for Peace”, a two-day forum led by the spiritual leader of Tibet, His Holiness the Dalai Lama.  Running Oct. 8-9, the event schedule will include academic panel discussions for students and faculty, a public talk by the Dalai Lama and a festival-style music event dubbed the One World Concert.

The Dalai Lama will speak at 7 p.m. on Oct. 9 at the Carrier Dome followed by a concert featuring popular artists such as Dave Matthews, Counting Crows, Andy Grammer and Nas. Comedienne Whoopi Goldberg will emcee the concert, and a full list of performers will be released in the coming days.

The concert will be recorded for broadcast television and will feature an original song performed by multiple artists written exclusively for the event.

Bringing together international thought leaders, the SU campus and the greater Syracuse community, the forum will stimulate critical conversations about how to shift global consciousness toward matters of peace.  It will culminate with a public talk by the Dalai Lama.

Ticket information has not yet been announced, however, proceeds for the event will advance international relief efforts and fund a new scholarship named for SU graduate student Bassel Al Shahade, who was killed in Syria earlier this year while making a documentary film on the violence in his homeland.

Visit oneworld.syr.edu for information on ticket availability and scheduled performers for the concert. The event is produced and sponsored by One World Community Foundation.
