Field hockey: Syracuse dominates Ohio in shutout

Ulbrich's hat trick leads Orange to seven-goal victory.

No. 5 Syracuse improved to 3-0 for the third consecutive season on Monday after thrashing Ohio (0-2) in a 7-0 shutout victory.

Freshman Annalena Ulbrich led SU with a hat trick, the first of her young college career. She opened the scoring off a penalty corner in the third minute of play and converted again 12 mimutes later.

Sandwiched between those goals was a pair of tallies by senior Jordan Page. After going scoreless in 2013, Page now leads the Orange with four goals this season.

After taking a 5-0 lead into the half, the Orange scored two more goals in the second period, including Ulbrich's third of the game.

Ulbrich's hat trick is the first by an Orange player since Karlee Farr recorded one against Monmouth last October.

SU goalkeeper Rebecca Congel made the first start of her college tenure, making two saves en route to her first shutout.

Syracuse wraps up its grueling road trip tomorrow against Kent State at 1 p.m.
