Christina Levin

Profile

About Me:

Christina is a Syracuse University political science, sociology, and newspaper and online journalism senior, originally from Ukraine. (Yes, that's in Eastern Europe.)

Christina serves as the features editor of The Student Voice, a biweekly campus newspaper. Since September 2011, Christina has been reporting on urban affairs for The Stand: South Side News, a monthly community newspaper that covers the South Side of Syracuse and has a circulation of 5,000. She's also worked as managing editor and is currently the executive editor of Medusa Magazine, the only explicitly feminist publication on campus. Last spring, Christina compiled Q-and-A pieces for Jerk Magazine's new web column, Face Time, for which she interviewed campus VIPs like Chancellor Cantor's husband and Newhouse's Dean Branham. To boot, Christina contributes to Syracuse's independent student newspaper, The Daily Orange, as staff writer for its news section.

As an ardent advocate of pro-democratic reforms and social justice, Christina established and presently directs the SU chapter of Democracy Matters, a nonpartisan organization that advocates reducing corporate influence in politics through student activism and campaign finance reform. She has also interned for political watchdog groups like Common Cause/New York and the Syracuse Peace Council. While taking a semester abroad in London, Christina  interned as a public policy and research assistant at a national childcare charity, Daycare Trust.

Christina looks forward to gaining editing and web journalism skills as news producer for The NewsHouse this spring.
