Orange erases 10-point second half deficit, but still falls to the Wildcats

Villanova (16-13, 6-10) scored 14 of the games final 18 points on Monday night at the Pavillion on their way to a 68-60 victory over the Orange. The loss made Syracsue (17-13, 6-10) the No. 12 seed for the Big East tournament. The Orange will play Providence at 12 p.m. on Friday in Hartford, Conn.

Here's three thoughts from SU's loss to Villanova:

Sophomore goalie Dominic Lamolinara makes game-winning save with two seconds remaining in a Feb. 26 lacrosse matchup against the Army Black Knights, sealing the second victory of the season for the Orange.

Syracuse head coach John Desko wasn’t happy with his team’s performance in the postgame press conference Sunday at the Carrier Dome -- despite the fact that the men's lacrosse team had just won its second game of the year with a 10-9 score. The No. 6 Orange (2-0) was very sloppy against Army Black Knights (2-2). The 25 turnovers the team committed bugged him the most, he said.

Syracuse men's basketball team beats South Florida Bulls in a 56-48 Wednesday matchup in the Carrier Dome.

Sometimes, a new look takes some getting used to.

This was the case for No. 2 Syracuse (28-1, 15-1) on Wednesday night. The Orange overcame an early deficit to defeat South Florida Bulls (17-11, 10-5), 56-48, in the Carrier Dome while wearing new Nike Hyper Platinum uniforms for the first and only time this season.

Sophomore guard Rachel Coffey has a career night in leading Syracuse to victory

The Syracuse women’s basketball team took down No. 20/21 DePaul Tuesday night 81-65 in Chicago, Ill. The win was the Orange's first win against a ranked team in both major polls this season.

February 20, 2012 - 8:02pm
The SU women's lacrosse team is back, returning a fair share of offensive weapons before playing against Boston College on Tuesday in the Carrier Dome.

The Syracuse women’s lacrosse team may be young, with 10 new freshman players on the squad this year, but the team’s youth does not deter their confidence.

In fact, head coach Gary Gait was clear in his belief that the team is ready for their season opener against Boston College on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the Carrier Dome, even if nearly a third of his roster has no collegiate experience.

February 19, 2012 - 7:06pm
Syracuse men's lacrosse team uses 10 straight goals to pull away from Albany in the season opener.

In front of a modest 5,805-person crowd at the Carrier Dome on Sunday, the No. 8 Orange (1-0) easily took care of Albany (0-1) 12-7 behind a strong offensive performance and solid goal keeping.

“We’re obviously very happy to come in and get a win in the first game of the year,” head coach John Desko said. “Albany is a pretty explosive offensive team, so it was good that we were able to keep the goals down on our defensive end of the field, too.”

Senior Scoop Jardine and sophomore C.J. Fair helped lead the No. 2 Orange past the Scarlet Knights on the road.

Syracuse (27-1, 14-1 Big East) continued its tear through the Big East with a hard-fought 74-64 victory over Rutgers (12-15, 4-10) on Sunday at the RAC. Senior point guard Scoop Jardine led the way for the Orange with 17 points and seven assists. The game was close throughout until Jardine nailed a 3-pointer with 72 seconds left to increase the lead to seven. Sophomore forward C.J.
